I prefer my religious movie to be like The Ten Commandments or The Passion of the Christ.

You prefer them to be awful?

Ben-Hur is the only religious film one needs to see.

No, we prefer them to be good. As in closer to the scriptures that inspired them.

Which translation of scripture? Or are you talking about the originals?

You know what I mean...

No, I really don't. I'm sure the original Hebrew text of the Noah story is nothing like the most recent English translation.

I will stipulate that I haven't seen The Passion. I was referring to the cinematography, I prefer visuals that appear more "grounded". Plus I like CGI to be as limited as possible if not avoided entirely.

As for your criticism of The Ten Commandments, lol.

7.9 on IMDB

91% on Rotten Tomatoes

Nominated to 7 Academy Awards, including 1 win.

I myself gave it 8/10

You are free to keep your stupid opinion.

...WOW @Master_Live, the second you start using IMDB and RT reviews to support your views on a film your opinions on pretty much everything afterwards becomes instantly questionable. Fucking rookie shit right there.

I was speaking in general terms. For a movie like Noah to be good it needs to be closer to the Bible, since that's what it's based on.

However, I'd say the same thing about any movie that's based on a book. I'd watch those movies, even if the movie doesn't follow the book. Just not Noah, since I don't believe the Bible is pure fiction.

First of all, I have to laugh at all the religious fundamentalists that take everything written in the bible at face value.

How can you guys not see that most of the stories written in the bible are just parables?

If I were a religious person, I'd see stories with SOME truth, designed to teach a lesson or principle.

Such as Genesis, Job, and the story of Noah and his Ark.

You really think Earth and the rest of the universe was created in 6 days?

You really think Noah crammed two types of every animal on earth into his wooden boat and then sailed around for 40 days and 40 nights?

You think Job had 7000 sheep, 3000 camels, 500 oxen and 500 female jackasses?

The bible is obviously made up of symbols and numbers.

I suspect the story is roughly the same at least....

My friend, right from the get go you will get Internet users mocking religion and using atheism to make themselves feel big.

Waste of time.

The funny thing is, atheism makes one feel very, very small and unimportant in the universe.

Perhaps. But people seem to most of the time use it as an ego shield to listen to their own voice.

So what you guys are saying is that I shouldn't sorely determine the value or quality of a movie by:

  • taking into consideration awards which are hugely politicized and which winners sometimes are determine by money and behind the scenes campaigns.
  • a site which methodology is unknown, got watered down in the last couple of years which inflated all of their ratings and which, since it is a internet site, skews toward a younger more impressionable generation which has constant access to the internet
  • and a site which tries to distill (sometimes) substantives pieces of movie criticism, some of which have no numerical component whatsoever, and coverts them to an % by simplifying a review to merely a fresh or rotten categorization.

Facts was a word i should not have used. I was trying to say, the written word of the bible, for the way it was written. I understand that in today's economy for movie to make $$, i have to keep in mind they have to add all these extra made up added changes within the movie. In the past though, they did make movies like the 10 commandments, or the passion of the Christ, that were much closer to the written word of the bible. I also never said any of it was true, opinions vary.
