Not sure if this is new...
(hopefully that works)
What's more interesting to me is the tagline "The Untold Story" which suggests this won't be the origin story we've seen 100 times.

I bet it'll be the origin story we've seen 100 timesxaosClearly you are mistaken, as it says it's the "untold" story.
(kidding)
I bet it'll be the origin story we've seen 100 timesxaosThat's the one thing holding me back from wanting to see this movie. I can understand maybe recapping his origin within the opening credits, or maybe even the first 10 minutes of the movie, but having to sit through ANOTHER origin story for two hours is too much, especially since most people know how he got his powers, anyway.

Yeah, opening montage *Peter with high school kids laughing* *Peter and class to go science-type-place* *Spider doing spidery things* *Spider gets nukafied* *Spider bites Peter* *Peter freaks out, possibly wets pants* *Peter gets superpowers* Done.

Exactly. No muss, no fuss, go directly to the superpowered ass-kicking.
I saw some preview for a Spider-Man video game where there were Spider-Men in different generations. One of which looked like it was from the 1920's or '40's. If they feel the need to reboot this overexposed character, I woudn't mind as much if they did the reboot from that angle/time period. At least it might be a LITTLE different.
[QUOTE="Allicrombie"]not terribly impressive.KiIIyouIt is just a poster afterall. ;p True, but the teaser trailer that was released some time back doesn't help much, either.
I would pay to see that. The Untold Story: Spider-Man gets his powers after being bitten by a radioactive Aunt May.

Maybe this will be black spidey -Sun_Tzu-
(I got this from photobucket...... I'm not sure if it crosses any lines. If it does, I apologize in advance.)

The director's only other feature to date is 500 Days of Summer; how do you go from that to a action movie, sight unseen? I think that Sony was rushing to get this made quickly so they didn't lose the film rights back to Marvel Studios.

I do believe Spiderman is one of those heroes whose origin is actually quite clear, everyone knows it, and on top of that, nothing happened prior to Parker being bit by the spider that's worth mentioning.
I personally think it's going to be about his loss of virginity or puberty or something similar.

I should just put this thread to bed now; the funny can only go downhill from this point on.
I still don't get the need for this reboot. JustPlainLucasBecause the third entry completely ruined the franchise.

I have no interest in seeing a "Spiderman origin" film again so soon.
I still don't get the need for this reboot. JustPlainLucasMe either, but the series is a money maker when you think about it.
I'm hoping it focuses on the relationship between Peter and Eddie Brock, and their inevitable fallout. Or that it just doesn't turn into a pile of crap.
[QUOTE="sammyjenkis898"][QUOTE="JustPlainLucas"]I still don't get the need for this reboot. Dylan_11Because the third entry completely ruined the franchise. It so did. Out with fat Spiderman in with sexy Spiderman. So I see you liked the Sons of Anarchy finale.
If it's going to be a complete adapation of the Gwen Stacy story arc from the comic books, then it definitely will be something most people probably haven't seen before.

I also concur with this notion. I really hope they just cut to the chase with the film. Maybe even do a comic-book esque intro showing how he got his powers with a monologue, then go straight into the action.

Sadly it seems like they're doing the opposite of "cutting to the chase".
In the first movie with Tobey Maguire (one of my favorite films ever by the way), it had some origin stuff going on. His costume, Uncle Ben, MJ, high school, etc. But that all gets solved in like the first 30 minutes before you have an epic plot involving the Green Goblin and Peter's love for MJ.
Here, they seem to be stretching that 30 minutes out the entire film. While I always appreciated the aspect of Peter's double life as Spidey and himself, we already KNOW the origin. We've seen it a million times in the comics and TV shows and movies, we know about his start and in high school and blah blah blah. Instead of getting past that to the interesting post high school part, its ALL in high school, and Peter turns from a nerd into an angsty emo.
Well, I'll still see it anyways, and hopefully its better then what we've seen so far makes it seem.
