apparently there are people on the internet who think that muse is a ripoff of radiohead or whatever. I personally think they are two totally different bands. Also comparing muse to radiohead to me is like comparing apples, sugar, and pie dough to apple pie.

I never really got the comparison either. They sound absolutely nothing alike in any way.

not a rip off, an inspiration perhaps. i like both bands but radiohead has been around longer and i am a fan. "subterranean homesick alien" from the "ok computer" album is one of my favourites.

I agree that they are two completely different bands. Their only common ground is that they both play alternative music and that they are both overrated (I like both muse and radiohead but they arent as godly as people claimt hem to be).

I find only their Showbiz album is similar to Radiohead's work.

They do sound similar because of the way their singers sing but that's pretty much it. Muse is better than Radiohead anyway.

Totally different bands, Muse can be a little much sometimes, sometimes I think Bellamy tries to emulate Jeff Buckley way too much, but that's just me.

Muse is nowhere as good as Radiohead, but comparing the two is like apples and oranges.

I'm not denying that fact that Muse has talent, I just think Radiohead sounds... prettier.

Muse's early work had a closer sound to Radiohead, but now both bands have evolved to the point where they don't sound alike. For the record, I prefer Radiohead.

i agree, they have been in the industry longer than muse. they are veterans. i recommendto anyone thatyoulisten to their more rockier albums such as pablo honey and my iron lung and songs such as "thinking of you", "ripcord" and yes, "creep". they were allrecorded earlier in their careers.

i am not taking anything away from muse really. i do enjoy muse, so don't flame me!

I will say that current Muse doesn't sound a lot like current Radiohead, though their earlystuff was a lot like Radiohead's The Bends-era work. Muse is more focused on guitar rock and over-the-top sci-fi references, whereas Radiohead focuses on sweeping concept albums. Though Muse'slyrics don'thave as much 'meaning' as Radiohead, Bellamy is a better and more powerful singer than Yorke, even though I can barely understand a damn thing either of them are saying. I also think that Bellamy is an incredible guitarist and live performer, something that Radiohead can't quite measure up to.

I was never able to make the connection either. I love Muse, but I'm definitely not a big fan of Radiohead.

The only similarities are use of falsetto (though they sound completely different), and their genre.

I enjoy Muse, but I love Radiohead, and there are definitely similarities between the two. Chris Martin and Coldplay have been more outspoken about the influence Radiohead has had on their music, but comparisons are more often drawn between Thom Yorke & Co. and Muse.

Oddly enough, a week or so ago, I was wearing a Radiohead shirt out to dinner, and a guy in the restaurant came up to me and said "Have you heard of a band called Muse? Don't you think they sound like Radiohead?"

This.

That said, Muse is one of my favorite bands... Radiohead just fails to hold my attention the way Muse do. =/
