Situation 1:
It is a child's birthday. The father walks into the room and says "close your eyes and hold out your hands, I have a surprise for you." While the childs eyes are closed the father takes off his belt. Then he places a wet dog turd, fresh from the lawn, in the child's hands. The child opens his eyes and stares at the dog poo in horror. At that moment, the father starts beating the crap out of the child with his belt while singing "happy birthday".

Situation 2:
A mother and a father call their daughter into the kitchen. They both look disgustedly at the daughter, then the mother speaks "daughter, no matter what, you'll never be beautiful." The father then opens the front door, all of her things are packed up in little suitcases on the porch. The mother pushes the daughter out the door, and they close it, locking it behind them.

No mine would be a toss up that came down to "being thrown into a concrete wall", "trying to fly", "swim team practice in a thunderstorm", and "needle broken off in leg in hospital".

I read the topic and thought "oh they are asking what my most scarring childhood experience was..." I was wrong. As to which is worse I don't know.

I assure you I was never an ugly little girl, at least to the best of my knowledge.

So does Frosty the Snowman, right after you put his magic hat on. Then everything gets all dark and creepy, sugary music starts playing, and frosty wants to play with you...

I have an active imagination? Call them macabre experiments in human interaction. Which is worse - physical violence and cruelty to a child, or emotional torture and abandonment?

#1 would be more disturbing in the short term, but less traumatizing in the long run. By the way, Subrosian, you have the best name and avatar evah. If I had seen you around before the OTcars, I would have nominated you for best user name.

They would both screw the kids life up. But, I think the 2nd one was worse.

I would have to say #1 would be worse. Atleast #2 offered a way out of a loveless relationship with the parents even if it was a forced way out, eventually the girl would probably make a good life for herself. Parents in #1 would probably beat the child for years and damage the child beyond functionability
