most memorable thing to happen to you in 2014 (so far)

what is the most memorable thing that has happened to you this year (2014)?

for me, it was finally being told by a professional in my field that my skills were adequate and worth pursuing. i had long been chasing something i couldn't attain before this year. but now everything makes sense. i am qualified and i am capable. nothing can hold me back now...

what about you, OT?

Being fired from my job of 3 years in February. First time ever that I've had to collect unemployment...and still collecting. Sucks.

Lol...I try not to, but it's convenient to keep a GS window open while looking for work.

Probably that I have around $3500 worth of dental work coming up, all my wisdom teeth are impacted and are going to be removed and I have multiple cavities that are a result of my laziness regarding flossing as a late teen.

You reminded me that I just had my first cavity filled a few months ago. That was a really significant and life altering experience, and I take my dental hygiene super seriously now. As far as other stuff, I went to the NCAA Final Four in April, and that was of course hugely entertaining. AT&T stadium is quite impressive and lavishly built.

Back in March, I met someone who I have been waiting to meet for a very long time. One of the only truly memorable things to happen to me in about a year.

Nothing. My life is just as shitty as it was last year and the year before and the year before that and so and so on.

Getting married, for sure. Second most memorable has to be the fact that last week I randomly met the person who wrote the song for the band with whom I stepped on stage last year to propose to my wife (which happened last year).

I moved. It was exciting at the beginning, but now I'm still trying to find a job and have doubts about my future career.

#18 Posted by Korvus (3217 posts) -

@one_plum: I feel you. I moved country and it's not as easy as I hoped it would be XD

How did this chance meeting happen?

My wife is a musician and she's in contact with a lot of people in the business, so she heard this girl singing at a festival in Germany, approached her and asked if she wanted to do something together here in the Netherlands, she said yes and she came over last week. We were chatting, I was talking about the marriage proposal and turns out she had been with the band around 2005 and she was the one who had found an old poem and arranged it to song for the band. It was a "holy shit" moment to say the least =P

Dark Souls II

#22 Posted by jasean79 (2357 posts) -

@korvus: That's pretty amazing. Things like that just don't happen often. You said your wife is a musician. Is it harp that she plays?

#23 Posted by Korvus (3217 posts) -

@jasean79: How did you guess? Did I mention it before?

#24 Posted by foxhound_fox (87690 posts) -

Got fired from my job for working too hard and demanding a higher raise than they budgeted for. I guess having me find out what the rest of the freight industry makes (warehouse and drivers) was bad for them, so instead of negotiating with me, they just forced me out (essentially it was a firing, but they worded it on my ROE saying it was "quitting").

Which is somewhat good, since now I can focus on getting my Class 1A/CDL drivers license and start the career I want.

Yes, I recall you mentioning it before. Always liked the sound of harp. Not exactly a "portable" instrument to move around though. :D

Does she play professionally in local chamber orchestras/symphonies?

#26 Edited by Korvus (3217 posts) -

@jasean79: No kidding, especially her concert harp. I almost shit myself trying to take a 50kg 30.000€ instrument down stairs...thing is bloody huge...She plays both pedal (concert) harp and celtic harp. She has her own bands, plays on her own as well, teaches and plays all around the world with her celtic harp. With the concert harp it's mostly for things like weddings and of course with orchestras.

Don't really want to give details though; last thing I need is some of the OT creeps stalking my wife XD

OMFG that so sucks. I wish I hadn't watched that. I hope the dog lived and got the care it needed after that.

when i got my 1TB external HDD. So much extra space for porn. i went crazy downloading now that i had more space.

#31 Posted by Korvus (3217 posts) -

@AmazonTreeBoa: Congrats! And don't worry about the dog, if you pause it just right you see he swiped its head but only pinned its ear down. I'm sure the dog wasn't happy but I think it was more scared than hurt.
