By far, the most common mistake is putting an unnecessary apostrophe when the word doesn't possess anything.

"Let's clean the window's!"

I see lose written as loose a lot.

The next one is probably the overuse of IMO, when it should be assumed it's your opinion already, but I suppose that's more of a style preference than technically wrong.

I see a lot of alot.

Choose instead of chose, or vice versa.

I see way too many mistakes actually. They bother me sometimes.

What writing mistakes do I see commonly on the internet? All. All the writing mistakes possible I see constantly. :)

  • Loose versus lose (see often).
  • You're and your (constantly).
  • There, their and they're (constantly).
  • Overly long sentences with way too many commas connecting unrelated thoughts.
  • Incorrect usage of singular and plural nouns and verbs.
  • Incorrect usage of present/past tense verbs.

I find the sense of superiority people exude about their grammatical prowess is far more obnoxious than any grammatical mistake.

Using good instead of well. For example " he did really good on the test" instead of "he did really well on the test.".

@MuD3: I know, I'm just teasing.

Bad grammar doesn't bother me all that much except when it's one of those punks who will have no problem in telling you that "your stupid"...My stupid what? if you're going to try and insult someone at least know the difference between your and you're.

It is really amazing how many people can leave school and not know some of these, like your/you're.

All the mistakes I see every time I go on Facebook just make me want to teach even more.

Since Twitter and Facebook, grammar has basically gotten a stake through the heart.

To be fair, the school system sucks and most teenagers/young adults could give a damn about their grammar. I only mind mine at all because I study foreign languages as a hobby. If it were not for that I wouldn't know the difference between "learned" and "learnt." Anyway, it's not good that most people don't know "a lot" is spelled that way and High School is an open-form compound word. I don't think you need to necessarily know grammar concepts inside and out so long as it is done quasi-naturally/ via habit.

Your - You're

Their - They're (this one is retarded). Their and there are normally confused, but the their and they're happens when a poster knows in the back of their mind that there are multiple uses for words that sound like 'there', but they aren't sure which is which so they put the 'other there' (their) in place of where they're should be.

e.g - "their trying to shoot that asian man with a sword". Grinds my FUCKING gears! AHHHHHHHH!!!
