If you believe the vote tallies.

What else is there? Are the tallies being contested still? The last three seem to be Democrat strongholds anyway. I'm not sure about Colorado and Michigan. But, Florida was the surprise to me. I always thought of Florida as a Republican stronghold.

Aliens.

The illegal ones? Nah. I think they want to stay.

Not going to happen, but I wonder what Georgia's new name would be if their secession was successful.

Not sure what would be more fun: Watching a civil war lasting less than 30 minutes, or the economic collapse these states would see in the even more unlikely event of a secession.

The warped view on Obama is actually quite hilarious, these people are straight out morons. He has been a center-right president who has extended the Bush Tax cuts, extended the wars longer than he said he would and he's caved to the Republicans so many times that it is hard to count. Just imagine if there was an actual black democratic president who was on the left of the political spectrum, these people would go crazy.

I personally blame misinformation and fox news for part of the reason why these retards want to "secede" but hey, if they want to create there own country with religious laws and a 100% unregulated pro-corporations are people society than I say let them, because they wont last long. They all come off as religious freaks to me who use the same talking points *insert strong southern accent* "Obama is a socialist communist atheist Muslim and this isn't America anymore" And how they can be convinced that people making over 1 million dollars should pay less in taxes than themselves is just amazing. They cant even explain WHY Obama is a socialist.

But then again, they wont ever get the majority of votes to secede anyways, and even if they did I doubt the U.S would let them. There is a part of me that thinks if Obama wasn't black he wouldn't get the hate he does from these people.

Scientific Proof That Everyone Lies

Many of us like to think that we're honest, upstanding individuals and that it's a minority of society that actually lowers itself to lying and cheating. But researchers are finding that, actually, we're not as virtuous as we thinkand we all lie a little to make things swing in our favor.

The federal goverment is funded in part by taxpayers in those states. It's not a magical entity that blesses people with stuff that came out of no where. The question you should be asking is how the federal goverment would survive without those states.

While this could be true, also think about how some states benefit from other state's taxes. I don't have any updated numbers, but I don't think they have changed to much in the last 7 years: http://taxfoundation.org/article/federal-taxes-paid-vs-federal-spending-received-state-1981-2005

I don't get it. The majority of states in that link pay less in federal taxes than the federal budget they receive, how is that possible? Where's the money coming from? I thought the richest states paid for the others but it doesn't seem to even out.

Of all those state, I only see Texas likely doing well as its own country. Mostly because of it's economic clout and substantial population, along with a strong ability to probably form it's own military (isn't a pretty good portion of the US military from the South and Texas in particular?).

God, it's a bunch of crap. Not one is thinking about the implications this holds nor the consequences and all because they simply because they didn't get their way. It pisses me off that my home state, humid Louisiana, is involved in the political storm of nonsense. I'm not even that patriotic but I can't stand this.

If this were to happen, which I'm 100% sure it won't, I'm leaving this naive newfound "nation" for my actual country.

Itll be interesting to see some states break off and start their own development. Maybe this is a good thing; some fire to the ass has always been known to make people move with a sense of urgency. I mean, things must be bad if every Tom Dick and Harry is starting to go public with their issues concerning the American government. I guess its true that you can only take but so much. Actually, Im glad to see people stepping up, its better than snapping and grabbing your guns to shot up the neighborhood mall. The only people I find to not have some sought of quarrel with the government are those that are either unaware of the amount of corruption, too scared to do anything (much less talk about it), or are some of the beneficiaries to the corruption. Even the 3 blind mice can see what time it is. The only way things will get better is if we the people make it better. The governments work for us, but slowly they have been reversing the roles by putting people in fear while trampling all over the constitution. Youll be surprise how many people think we are supposed to do exactly and everything the government says, especially the younglings, smh.

It could potentially be good if maybe one or two states left just so that the federal government realizes that they cannot indefinately attack civil liberties and no one is going to care in a meaningful way. That said, I doubt the petitions will amount to anything, but it could actually cause some peopel pause if they did.

And NASA has a facility in Texas.

The federal government clearly has too much power right now. What bad things would happen if states seceded peacefully? I don't think this is such a bad idea, especially if the newly independent states were still willing to cooperate/interact with the states that didn't secede.

From my amateur perspective this is part of the "redistribution of wealth", states who can't afford to raise taxes (and thus have deficits) are supplemented by other states. I don't know how this works entirely so correct me if I'm wrong, but if the numbers don't add up, I would guess we borrow money to help the states stay afloat, and add the borrowed money to the deficit.

They passed a non-binding referendum to join the Union last week. This doesn't mean, however, that PR will become the 51st state necessarily, but it's a step in that direction. They still have to formally apply for admission into the Union and the U.S. Congress has to vote to allow them to enter.

I do think our country is too big, but the kind of split that might work in everyone's favor and turn out well is not the kind of split that any of these politicians are smart enough or would take the time to do right.

Most of these petitions represent less that 1% if the states population. This is pure butthurt, nothing more, nothing less. If they are that upset they should just go to the local courthouse and denounce their citizenship.

Gee. What happened? I thought the Puerto Ricans were happy to remain a Commonwealth. I would love to visit that island someday.

They passed a non-binding referendum to join the Union last week. This doesn't mean, however, that PR will become the 51st state necessarily, but it's a step in that direction. They still have to formally apply for admission into the Union and the U.S. Congress has to vote to allow them to enter.

Man, if I was a congressman I would honestly be torn on whether to let them join just because they would throw off the flag's symmetry so much.
