Poll Model Chrissy Teigen uses Ottawa shootings to bash U.S. gun control and violence. Was she out of line? (15 votes)

Yes, she should have use another forum to speak her views. 60%
No, she is right on the money on her comment. 40%

Story.

A minor controversy has erupted based on the above Tweet. Basically, Teigen is stating that the shooting in Ottawa would have been just another day in the U.S. with the shootings we have here.

In my opinion, an accurate comparison of the Ottawa shooting in the U.S. would be if a shooter went to the Tomb of the Unknowns, shot the guard, and then went into Congress and started firing. Not something that happens everyday like she is implying.

The unfortunate thing on her part is that people have sent her death threats about her statement. Agree or disagree with her statement, she does have the right to say it.

Thoughts?

This has been done COUNTLESS times before with shootings in the US, not sure why this time it is any more or less "controversial" than those.

She is perfectly within her right saying what she did. And yes, we have a guns violence problem in this country. But if the intent of her message -- or similar messages from others -- is to encourage stricter gun control policies in this country, then she may be mistaken.

Taking the ability to purchase guns away from ordinary citizens will not limit gun violence.

Armed guards in the Parliament building was a recent thing. Had Vickers not been armed, that event would have been worse.

My thoughts are death threats over tweets and postings have lost their shock value for some time now. Unsure why the tweet or the death threats over the tweet are concerning.

i'm abstaining from the poll. someone needs to end the endless cycle of asking random people what their opinion on everything is. just let this one die.

To be honest, making it a poll was the only way I could make the topic title long enough to say what I wanted, since the 60 character limit doesn't apply to polls.

There will always be some scum bag out there trying to exploit a situation. Not sure what gun control would have done to stop any of this, not unless we're talking about a blanket ban on certain religious groups.

She has every right to express her opinion, but honestly she comes across as ignorant, self righteous, and whiny. There certainly is a gun problem in this country, but referencing an act of terrorism designed to intimidate a nation the way she did, does seem disrespectful and out of place.

Agreed, which why someone needs to make good on one of these threats. Put the proper value to internet death threats again.

She can say whatever she wants. Why do people feel the need to respond? To a Tweet of all things. And the death threats are even more puzzling. Overreaction to an opinion over the internet seems to be the norm, I suppose. That in itself the the most disturbing part of this.

Obvious point I never see mentioned; all the guns that are used in these school shootings are purchased legally.

As in if they didn't have easy access to these guns there wouldn't be school shootings.

In poor taste. Just because there is a tragedy doesn't mean you rush to make a political point. Certainly not minutes after it happened.

While she is correct that the USA has a huge gun problem. It doesn't seem appropriate to talk about it when discussing an incident that didn't even happen in the USA.
