Anyone using it yet?

How do you like it?

What version did you buy?

I am thinking of upgrading to vista but want some opinions.

I'm not gonna get it until I really need to. Like when there is a really good game.

Yea... I'll wait till DX10 becomes the standard... and when the hackers have worked through the easy security holes in Vista.

I am using Vista Ultimate at the moment and I am loving it. I always have my copy of XP ready just in case something massively bad happens with Vista, but so far so good. I have been keeping up to date with a lot of security and PC experts reports on Vista and from their perspective it is a great OS. Do you need to upgrade to Vista? No. But if you are buying a new PC chances are Vista will ship with it and there should be no reason to avoid using it.

I have it and I must say I like it a lot. There are very little bugs, and it is very fast. I have dx10 and I run Flight Sim X on it and it looks amazing. the transparent windows are awesome and so is everything else about it...no, I'm kiddding I don't really have it.

Not for a while, although the brief mentions of the new standby/hibernate modes as well as the mobile control panel have me curious. No one ever talks about that, though...I guess no one uses laptops.

So yeah, if it's got a quicker hibernate mode (XP's is kind of pokey) then I can claim that and the look as the reasons I have for getting it. And until they iron out bugs, I'm not to keen on it. I've also heard iTunes doesn't work with it, which would put my Nano SOL.

I can buy Home Premium for less than a hundred bucks at my university, too, which is nice. I'd love Ultimate...but animated backgrounds aren't worth $150 more.

Is it the retail or OEM version that you can by at your school?

That I'm not sure - they don't have any in stock yet and the people working there are idiots. It does have an 'EDU' tag on their webpage, so it might just be an OEM version with 'education copy' printed on the disc. Some education software comes in retail packaging, though, so who knows. Macromedia/Adobe's stuff does, at least.

I kind of wish they'd carry an education copy of Ultimate.

I have only used it at work.  Because work as a Internet Tech Support specialist I need to know things like that.

However the only way I am going to get Vista is if I buy a new PC which wont be for a while.

Beta tested it...it was alright...but the retail is almost the same as the last beta, which is pretty bad for being retail. A lot of driver support is missing and a lot of programs...like basic programs and games are not even supported. I have a FREE ultimate copy from the University of Wisconsin and I still have not installed it due to its nature of sucking so hard compared to XP which by now is pretty stable and fast, and the thing is...Vista does nothing for me that XP cant already do.

I generally like to get the next operating system at the last possible moment. Especially since Vista is a memory hog and i'd like to save my memory for my games.

i guess if you update every month. you'd update to the point where you get vista. i mean, vista is still better than xp. its just that its not that much better to spend money on yet.

I used it. It looks nice but I don't think it warrants an upgrade just yet.

I'm not getting it untill I get a decent computer to run it on.
#25 Posted by double_decker (145772 posts) -
I haven' got it yet, I usually wait for around a year for an upgraded version where there isn't so many bugs in the OS

I wouldn't want to waste money on it.
