I'm glad he didn't. A lot of people, including me, would be super pissed off otherwise.

That's a lot of livelihoods, not to mention personal entertainment, that he could have just swept away with a few keystrokes.

I'm surprised he only asked for $5,000 too. Shit, I'd be like give me five million so I can be set for life. :P

He could've sold that exploit to someone else for a lot more than $5,000. If only that dude was on the dark side...
I'm sure there would be a lot of people who would be willing to pay him a lot more than 5k to remove some videos.
If I had that power I would first delete every anime video off of Youtube, then report the problem to Google and collect the $5k

Linkified for laziness...
Well 5K $ is a nice bonus, but honestly I think he could have asked for more.

Why stop at 5 million? Why not...
@gamerguru100: It would be a lot more accurate to say "this guy could have deleted anything on Youtube" as opposed to "everything". The Gawker article title makes it sound like he could have wiped Youtube clean of all videos with the push of a button. In reality, the exploit allowed him to apparently delete any video on Youtube, one at a time. Even if he elected to throw this up on Reddit and 4chan instructing every reader to start deleting as fast as they could, Youtube has over 1 -billion- users and (according to Youtube) about 300 hours of video are uploaded every minute. If this went public a lot of damage could have been done and Youtube would have lot a lot in ad revenue but even with an army of users behind him deleting all of Youtube would still have been a pretty tall order before the exploit was at least temporarily blocked if not fixed.

I wonder if he could have just deleted the comments? Anyways I'm glad he didn't delete them as there is just so much to learn from the videos on that site.
bullshit.
he could have deleted individual videos one at a time after getting into individual accounts and using the code.
so of course what is reported?
OMG! MAN COULD DELETE YOUTUBE!!!! OMGOMGOMG!!!
man could delete a few dozen vids before getting caught and the backdoor being closed does not get clicks though.
welcome to the future where all reporting is tabloid reporting. i'm shocked they didn't report batboy was behind the whole thing.
