Tom Holland will be the younger High School Spider-Man since Sony is leading the rights to Marvel for the time being and the new Spider-Man will hit theaters July 28, 2017. I hope they at least introduce villains that hasn't made into the previous Spider-Man movies and I want to see like The Shocker and Carnage this time around, no more Green Goblin please. So is he the right guy for new Spidy?

****, how many times are they going to reboot the franchise? Just please don't let the first movie be another Spiderman origin story.

Since spidey is going to make an appearance in the next captain america movie before his own, I would say it's safe to bet on the movie not being an origins.

Spider....Man? I know Ultimate was supposed to be around 16, but in a movie, that'd often be a 22 year old.

One thing?

So why isn't this a african-american kid ? this kid is probably a decent actor but seriously if we are going to watch a reboot again and again, at least make it worth our time.

Maybe Marvel will get it right. Is it going to be an 8yo Spidey though?

I think this iteration is just to young to hang with the Avengers. Origin story okay for him to be young but he should have had experience by the time he's with the team. Really don't know why they didn't just keep Andrew.

What not a black-transgendered-post-op-female-plantkin-who-self-identifies-as-chinese? That'll make the movie real interesting!

Because the main Spider-Man is Peter Parker and he is white.

I read somewhere that Garfield skipped out on a big dinner with a lot of Sony execs, and was very vocal to blame the studio for the less than stellar reviews of the last movie. Not sure how much of that is true though.

This link will explain it about that.

http://www.vox.com/2015/6/24/8839485/spider-man-black-gay

To be honest, I'm glad Spidy isn't black cause I grew up with Spider-Man and casting these characters needs to be black is somewhat getting old. Heck I'm still baffle about Johnny Storm is now Black [AKA Human Torch] in the new Fantastic 4 but hey, I'm still going to see it but I just think a reboot isn't needed. I think the real deal question should be, So Why can't we have Spider-Woman?

He doesn't seem to have hit puberty yet and as far as I know, you need that to be romantically involved with redheads.

Also, another Spiderman reboot? seriously? Did that become an annual event now?

I don't understand the logic of picking a 19 year old that looks ten myself.. As always I’ll hold final judgement when I see him in action in the movie

@bmanva: Oops, I was mainly talking about Captain America: Civil War actually. That movie comes out next year around May 2016 and from what I heard, they waited to cast the new Spider-Man in it just for a short time. Who knows, this is just talk as of now so maybe well see him early or in his standalone movie.

Says who? the comics?

Who says the movie needs to follow the comics 100%? . After all the comics have made Thor a female , so a movie can make Spiderman Peter Parker a african-american if they see fit.

Says the guy who created and more importantly has creative right over Spiderman.

And I agree. They should either create new characters with different ethnicity or make existing ethnic superheroes more interesting.

@Jacanuk:

no way should Spidey be black......if they did that then they should make the Black Panther white.

Just no way with Spider-Man. Luke Cage and the Black Panther are black superheroes, not Heimdal and the Human Torch.

Thor should be male, just as in Norse Mythology.

Why not a black guy for once?

Eh, whatever. Looks like a good casting choice. He seems young enough and very similar to Toby McGuire (who I think played a great Spiderman). Looks good, don't know anything about his acting credentials though.

@CountBleck12@xdude85: Amen, there's like a new Marvel movie for every season now. I'm not a big comic geek to begin with, I don't mind superheroes now and then, but there's just too much of it anymore.

Anyway, I guess my opinion on the thing is... I still don't feel like they ever found the perfect Peter Parker. Maybe it would be best if they just put him into movies and have him be in costume the whole time? lol.

I seriously think we are going to see a comic book crash soon.. There are entirely too many movies and shows coming out all at once with few actually changing up anything.. Spider-Man is really a posterchild of this, in which we are basically seeing a 3rd reboot of a series in less than two decades. Too much money is poisoning the industry in which they are just churning this shit out riding off the success of movies prior to it.

Unlikely

These movies are the biggest hits at the box office, and most of them are favored by critics.

Not necessarily. A good movie is a good movie and action movies do sell especially in the summer.

While I thought Age of Ultron was not as great as it could have been, the comic book movie industry has only been improving since the days of the first Spider-Man films started it on the road to success.

Guardians of the Galaxy is an absolutely outstanding piece of cinematic achievement that really sets the bar for the rest of Marvel (and DC's) efforts in the film medium in the years to come. Granted, for that particular genre of film, it is still well below other genre standards.

If Infinity War, Civil War and the new Justice League films are not up-to-snuff with what's been happening in the past couple years, then I will definitely agree with you. But I will remain optimistic, since I could only have dreamed of movies of this calibre as a child.
