Ummm on online sites ( even on OT ) i notice sometimes people from both US and Canada mocking others countries many aspects as climate or laws , Other country's respective celebrities.

Is there any rivalry between US and Canada ?

That would probably be my guess, but I would think it's more of a friendly rivalry than anything else. Who really has a beef with Canada?

When I lived in Canada and people found out I was American (can't hide that southern accent) they'd give me a good ribbing. It was never mean, so I just wrote it off as 'little brother syndrome'.

I don't really see one. I live 18 miles from Victoria, BC and have been there quite a few times. It just seems like a friendlier America to me.

Also, I spent my honeymoon up in Vancouver, BC and I met some of the nicest people up there. Not only were people friendly, they were well mannered, the city seemed very clean and very pleasant.

Would make an interesting story setup for the next Call of Duty. No more global enemies left, and they need to go more parody anyways.

No. Canadians hate each other more than they hate Americans.

I think the vise versa could be said for Americans

Not really any rivalry. Definitely not the right word for it.

But it's kind of hard not to poke fun at a country who voted in George Dubya twice, and still has no universal healthcare.

Does the Bald Eagle have a rivalry with a leaf? It's more of a clear crushing of awesomeness rather then a rivalry.

Rivalry? Not where I am where there's almost as many Canadian flags as US flags. Besides we cross over to Canada regularly to visit friends.

We also have a lot of Canadian tourists around during the summer. Of course, most of them are Frenchies. But, oh well.

I wouldn't say a rivalry, just friendly jabs at each other. I live In Regina, Saskatchewan, which is about 2 and a half hours away from the US border and in all honesty, we are pretty much the same. All the Americans I have met are great people. I have an uncle who lives in New Jersey and he claims the same thing, friendly people. Obviously there will be differences, but hey, that's what makes people awesome, the differences.

Most of us would prefer we didn't have it, either. Quebec, unfortunately, was not a choice or in any way voluntary. The only reason Quebec is still part of Canada is because it'd be difficult to have another country smack between Ontario and New Brunswick, PEI, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.

Having lived just outside of Quebec for five years (Cornwall, Ontario) I truly feel you. I don't know how many people I pissed off because I couldn't understand French beyond "rue" and "oui". When I moved up there I truly thought everyone learned both French and English, but I guess that's just for the English-dominant provinces. We had enough Francophones walking into my business that it really was a problem.

Edit: Also, we (the US) are quite separated from Alaska but we manage. You can do it!

Nowhere besides Quebec and in areas bordering Quebec know French fluently in large groups. I know a few people who can speak French fluently or somewhat fluently here in BC, but most either have French parents or took exchange trips to French-speaking areas or even actually to France. We have a French Immersion school here, but again it's almost exclusively the kids with French parents who send them there, or people who don't know any French and want their kid to learn.

We are only bilingual in Canada because a large province is full of people who speak French and French only, not because we're all bilingual. I was told all through my young years that if I didn't know more than one language I'd never ever get a job. They pressed it on us in 8th and 9th grade to continue on with French because if we didn't know both languages we'd never get into college or get decent jobs. Needless to say, it's helpful to have a second language, but not a necessity whatsoever.

The English speaking provinces make an effort to teach their kids French, but it's not the same way in Quebec. We'll get a translator or try to help you if you don't speak English here, they'll just get mad and berate you if you don't know French there.

They have "language police" who cite some stupid "charter of the French language" and Frenchify everything. Some Italian restaurant's owner was 'cracked down on' for using the ITALIAN names for ITALIAN FOODS at his ITALIAN restaurant in Quebec. Quebec store owners are forced to use French on their facebook pages.

http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/02/21/quebec-language-police/

The "language police" are complaint based which leads me to conclude that Quebec must be full of A) bitter assholes and B) stupid people who cater to bitter assholes.

Losing Quebec would never be a loss to Canada.

We have a lot of Canadians here in Upstate NY. Heck, we also have a lot of Canadians at my hometown in northern Nevada. There was a point when some of the hicks were remarking, "Damn we're being invaded again by Canadians." He He.

I don't see any animosity then or now. This was from a 4th of July parade (my hometown) a while back. But, they're still around:

Spoken like a true snob. As if you can stereoptype a nation of over 300 million as diverse as America is. Attitudes are very different throughout the U.S.

No. Perhaps here shouldn't be an example of reality.
