I mean look at his filmography , most universally critically acclaimed. Hes been making fvcking awesome movies from 70's to present ( Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Cape Fear, The Casino, Goodfellas, The Aviator, The Departed, Hugo, Wolf of The wall Street ). I think hes best director in US atm. Even Christopher Nolan sucks compared to him.

What you say guys? Or Who is better director than him ? :)

Far as I know, he's of Italian origin, so he ain't all that American.

Anyway, I can't mention any director who I believe has outperformed him (Maybe Sergio Leone sells the same perfection but there again, he's also Italian).Taxi Driver alone brings him to the top spot.

Also, you forgot Mean Streets, indi.

"Even Christopher Nolan sucks compared to him"...the very fact that you included this makes my view of your general opinion on Scorsese moot.

Coen brothers suck. Most overrated, pretentious films currently entering the market.

Scorsese's up there, although I wasn't a fan of Wolf of Wall Street. Most overhyped and overstated major film of 2013.

Spielberg's still got it. Lincoln was excellent and anyone who says otherwise is deluding themselves.

Gotta toss Eastwood in the ring. Nolan is really consistently good. And David O'Russell is one-upping himself every year it seems; I'm really growing increasingly enamored with his work. His directorial style has a unique charm that catches you in a way other directors can only attempt.

I know he's really genre specific, but I'm in some ways partial to Abrams. Wish I could say Lynch, but he's fallen off the radar in recent years much like Coppola (Francis, not Sophia, she's as bad as the Coen bothers).

Frankly, Tarantino is way up there in my book. He's probably more consistently good (for what he does) than any other director.

Of course Allen is still very prolific, and Mallick still puts out his monolithic giants every few years, so it's all very up in the air.

I don't think you can call definitively call Scorsese the current best because it's such a tossup amongst all the great directors out there currently that really it just comes down to a subjective determination of which directorial style you like best. And even I, maybe one of the biggest movie buffs out there, still couldn't possibly decide which I prefer. I'm just glad cinema is so full of great work nowadays.

Christopher Nolan is British.

For me it is between Scorsese and David Fincher. If Foxcatcher is as good as Capote then Bennett Miller should be entering the conversation.
