I notice that there are awful places onlike that are toxic. They are bitchy rude people who tear you down and gatekeep. So immature.

Like gamefaqs. They will act like games don't matter beyond news or walkthroughs. Always smarmy.

But here there are some good people who will make fun of you in a good natured way and its not horrible. Ive never heard of any drama on Gamespot forums.

There is stupid console wars. But those are on every site.

I will post cringe sometimes but other than that. No.

So what do you guys think?

Yeah, I've really enjoyed my time on here so far. The community is friendly. I get a real "homey" vibe being on here.

Another thing to mention regarding the forums is that the layout is just right. Everything is where you want it to be and is easily accessible kind of thing. :) Sure, there's been tweaks but it's not too drastic.

Seems System Wars gets the most traffic. Followed by the Political forum. Used to be Off-topic buzzed a bit more often. But yeah, what there is now is still good.

Well, it is kind of a dead forum. Not much to get toxic over a picked-clean skeleton.

Pretty much, even a year ago when I joined it had a lot more traffic than this.

It's better then Facebook that's for damn sure I finally deleted my account permanently earlier this year and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

It's okay, but System Wars forum tends to be the most popular forum for a good reason. Due to GS Staff changing things, it kinda got alot of users upset over the years and they left disappointing. Hopefully in 2020, things will get better I hope cause Gamespot is the only gaming site I come and can't imagine myself going back to IGN or any other place.

Usually smaller communities are generally always better. The user-age here is older as well, 20-30's.

Personally i'm glad they moved politics, it may one of the more active sections, it's also the most toxic, more so than SW.

After political threads used to fill the boards... Imo good decision.

I think GS is too small. Most trolls probably get bored and move on. The ones that stay are special :)

I still like it here. I've been coming to GS for around 20 years now.

This is really the only forum I interact with on a daily basis.

As others have said I'm glad they split off politics.... I usually stay out of there heh. I'm here for the games and the tech talk mostly

Another detail: I used to think that Gamespot was this lefty paradise and then I went to others site and uff, in comparison, Gamespot is the very image of free speech incarnated.

Everything is relative.

I joined Gamespot many years ago because of the very active community. I guess the gradual rise of social media caused the downfall of the forums here. I still come back because I just love the visual design of the forum. I wish I was more active on Reddit because of the active community but I hate having to navigate there.

I still visit and post in the forums from time to time, so I guess I'd agree the community is better than most.

I'll lurk around Reddit sometimes, and some sub-reddits and conversations can be worthwhile reads. But the community there can get very toxic and biased. I'll probably never really contribute to any discussion there, and I can't anyway because it rarely lets me post anything.

I've been a part of some really good online communities over the years. Bolt.com (the original one) still stands out to me as a website that was really ahead of its time. Had some good discussions there. More recently, it's been nice to see so many people eager to cast buffs and help out on quests in WoW Classic.

Years ago we had a lot of longtime members leave, it was around October 2013 or so. That was when GS underwent its current redesign. But even though GS doesn't feel as booming as it once did, I still think the discussion is thriving on a few forums. Just stick to system wars I guess, lol.

I missed the Union feature. I have a really great union (horror club or whatever its called, and Persona lover) that I used to come by and post stuff there. Also logged in checked out events because of those stupid emblems, how the heck some people have so many.

100% with you on that. I deleted my account in around June last year but I made a new account just to communicate with people I keep in touch with on Messenger. It's seriously a breath of fresh air.

I come on Gamespot multiple times a day.

Therefore yes Gaemspot is best social media...

I think unions kind of also killed this place because it split off so many of the people who used to post in the main forums into their own communities. They were cool because you could get a group of people together that was interested in a very specific set of games, or topics, but also seems like it splintered the group off.

Unions or something similar made more sense with the traffic before Social Media became a thing. We were enough users here to justify them, to populate them and keep them active.

Gamespot is my go-to forum.

It's probably so chill because there is only very little of us still engaging.

I wish there were more people and the whole thing loaded faster. It's very demoralizing seeing Last Post: 15 minutes ago in the last post of the entire website.

It's the only forum that is still somewhat active dedicated to games that I know of. Sadly forums just aren't as popular as they used to be with the advent of social media.

I've been using GameSpot since 2006 everything just comes and goes on the site from forum pages to union pages. I do miss having a forum section page for UK members. I'm still blogging now and then also the only reason I keep coming back to GameSpot
