Poll Is it Just me or is every main character in an anime super annoying? (30 votes)
I think that Goku is annoying but not as much as the others that have been mentioned.

I suppose I might if I only watched only Shonen type o' anime, but since I don't I find only a few here and there really irritating...especially the English dubs.
Other then DBZ your watching the wrong Animes. Give Bleach a go for starters. Attack on Titan is also really good though it can be disturbing.
Animes i dont like are Naruto ( Believe it! ah f*** off.. ) and One Piece ( dont like the art style )
Attack on Titan is not disturbing at all compared to other animes. Bleach went downhill when Kubo made the Arrancar arc so freaking long and its got annoying characters too.
Mostly and overwhelmingly yes. There are so many anime titles and franchises out there and most of them is crap. But by sheer weight of numbers you're also bound to never run out of good animes to enjoy. Besides sometimes you need to get over such nuisances in animes to be able to appreciate the overall work.
I always find that *** audio makes everybody sound overly childish and overly excited and English dubs makes everyone sound like they're purposefully trying to be annoying (I really can't get myself to listen to dubs, not even when I was a kid but here and there there are some well done ones). That being said, lots of anime have the goofy, airhead, annoying main char who can do just about anything with minimal effort and the "cool", silent, not quite so talented but hardworking sidekick...I guess it's intended...
Not all of them are like that, though; it's a hit and miss.
Finally, someone brought this up. I find most of the main characters annoying including Eren from Attack On Titan. Though the worst of them would be Yukki from mirrai nikki.
I hate most anime but really enjoyed Ninja Scroll back in the day. The main character is basically Yojimbo/blondie.
i agree but there are a few deep, stand alone characters here and there whom i appreciate; like that of Bible Black who was a giant tentacle. despite all the yacky characters in other animes, he never talked or tried to make sense of his violent behavior towards vaginas, he just drilled through them for some time and just suddenly left all of this behind and vanished into thin air.
It's inevitable with a culture clash. What the Japanese consider cute and endearing comes across as annoying and non-sensible to most in the West.
I love anime. Stereotypes and fanservice, aside, it refreshing from the monotony of a lot of Western TV.
which one bothers you?
the one dimensional 13 year old, the one dimensional talking animal or the one dimensional robot with big tits?
Well if you're watching dbz, naruto, and one piece, then you brought that upon yourself.
There are plenty of animes with good protags

Indeed. Most mainstream American cartoons have annoying characters as well. The thing I think the TC doesn't seem to grasp is that a lot of the Japanese animated shows are catering to a younger audience. Mature, adult-oriented anime dosen't tend to fall within his broad stereotype.
I don't watch much anime. There's a couple I can stand and it's because the main characters are not depicted like hyper kids:
Depends on the Anime you watch along what your opinion on what defines "annoying" and honestly I didn't find Goku (DBZ), Eren (AoT) or Naruto annoying
Most of the anime I find on Netflix have the typical high school guy who meets a hot girl that occasionally walks in on her in her underwear or naked and has a nose bleed. Then he either gets kicked by that character or by another character who is also female but more independent, lol.
If it's a female lead character, then she is either really shy or really fucking aggressive and strong. Then she is either walked in on all the time while in underwear or naked and kicks their asses or a friend of her kicks their asses.
Also every anime I've found has that one pervert character who stalks the girl and has occasional nose bleeds when the female character touches him, somehow shakes her tits, bends over, or is also walked in on while naked.
I actually find characters like vegeta and Sasuke more annoying.
Vegeta is one of the dumbest characters in historiy.
I am true supersand! (gets almost killed by Zarbon)
I am true supersand! But you need to almost kill me. (then gets killed by Frizbee).
I am true supersand! You Fucking robot can wake up! (almost gets killed).
I am true supersand! You can change into your final form. (almost gets killed).
I am true supersand! (Causes Gohan who was already winning to become disabled).
I am true supersand! Lets little rat thing control him. Allows Buu to live.
I am true supersand! Refuses to fuse, almost ends the world.
When I was a kid, I thought he was cool. In retrospect, he was a moron.
I spot 2 Gintokis in this thread. I will leave this thread satisfied.
Some other likable main characters:
Space Dandy
Spike (Cowboy Bebop)
Vash (Trigun)
Onizuka (Great Teacher Onizuka)
In fact, I generally prefer older main characters. Back in the day I prefered younger, about 15~ year, but I can't really relate to that anymore.
The likes of Vash and Spike are NOT annoying in the least! Spike is a total BADASS while Vash PLAYS the part of the incompetent loser perfectly and it makes his character so much awesome IMO the way he sits there and tricks everyone by playing stupid.
Also, if Avatar counts in this discussion, The Last Airbender seriously has some of, if not the BEST characters I have ever seen on a show. Toph and Uncle Iroh in particular are just incredibly interesting characters which is made more awesome by the fact that Toph's part was originally going to be taken up by a completely DIFFERENT character, but when someone jokingly suggested making the earthbender a blind little girls instead of the macho man they originally planned it to be. The writer/s had a major lightbulb-above-the-head moment and loved the idea so much that the original character was scrapped and Toph was written in his place and it turned out to be the fav character of that writer/s.
The writing for Avatar in general is just amazing. Seriously one of the best shows ever made IMO.
