I think only Tupac Shakur surpasses Eminem in both music and movies ( Juice > 8 Mile ). Emimen in his prime rocked, don't think any one else like 50 Cent, Ludacris, Akon, Kayne West, Jay Z, Lil Wayne had so much popularity and chartbusters as Marshall Mathers.Eminem is a legend , along with Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, Notorious BIG, Cypress Hill, Run DMC... imo as i love all of their discography.

What you think OT ? :)

So many rappers out there rely on being the black guy, Where as Eminem can spit through rhymes far faster than any of them, with 10x more substance in his lyrics.

People only hate on him because he's not black.

Better than most modern, mainstream black rappers? Well, duh, most of them these days concentrate more on style and spending money than the music itself. But then, you have to remember, Eminem comes from an older generation of rapper, where grillz, cars and hoez weren't the focus.

There are plenty of rappers from the 1980's that would wipe the floor with Eminem in a freestyle contest.

This thread is straight up race bait.

But while Eminem in his prime was better than most black rappers just by virtue of being one of the better MCs out there, there were still a number of more accomplished black MCs. No fucking way that Eminem is and ever was better than Andre 3000. And unlike Eminem, Andre 3000 made excellent music in OutKast and was a great MC as well whereas Eminem was just a great MC.

Also, Eminem has terrible taste as far as beats and hooks are concerned and his lyrics have been abysmal for quite a while.

I'm not going to call him racist (cause there's nothing to indicate that he is) but this is a pretty racebaity thread. That being said, I think there's a chance that the race baiting was unintentional.

Also, TC, popularity/=/quality. Being white automatically gives Eminem a sales advantage since he can tap into suburban whites who weren't previously into rap. Eminem himself admitted that.

lol nice race bait

Funnily enough a large part of Eminem's popularity was because he was White. 2Pac, Biggie, Ice Cube and Nas all shit on him from great heights.

Here's a sample of Eminem's recent lyricsm:

"Hit a blind man with a coloring book and told him color inside the lines or get hit with a flying crayon."

^One of the worst lines of all time.

Although Eminem was good at one point, nobody who spits lines like "Hit a blind man with a coloring book and told him color inside the lines or get hit with a flying crayon" is the best. And musically Tupac is by no means trash even if you think he was a hypocrite (which he most certainly was).

Sorry, but I like too many mainstream artists for the whole "you're a hipster" gimmick to work.

More brilliant lyricism from Eminem:

"You can get the dick, just call me the ballsack, I'm nuts

Michael Vick in this bitch, dog fall back you mutts

**** your worms, you never seen such a sick puppy

**** it a sick duck, I want my duck sick mummy

And my nuts, licked, gobble 'em up trick, yummy

Bitch you don't fucking think I know that you suck dick dummy?

You'll get your butt kicked, **** all that love shit honey

Yeah I laugh when I call you a slut, it's funny!

Shawty dance while I diss you to the beat, **** the words

You don't listen to 'em anyway, yeah struck a nerve sucker

Motherfucker might as well let my lips pucker

Like Elton John, cause I'm just a mean cock sucker

This shit is on, cause you went and pissed me off

Now I'm shitting and pissing on everybody

Give a **** if it's right or wrong

So buck the Buddha, light a bong

But take a look at mariah the next time I inspire you to write a song, c'mon"

Eminem actually used to make somewhat intelligent shock rap, but his new shit is just dumb in a cringeworthy way and there are rappers that are doing better than recent/current Eminem. He's not even really being that shocking, just juvenile.

He's not Marshall anymore, he's a clone.... maybe. Best possible explanation for how he went from a smartass white kid rapping about jerking off and doing drugs to a guy making music videos with images of hellraiser and multiple references to hell (albeit subliminally). Don't believe me? Watch Rap God slowed down, some points you have to slow to frame by frame because there are single spliced images in his videos now. Whatever happened to him he's definitely not a good guy anymore, he's turned to the dark side that's for sure. Before his change he was one of the best rappers alive, now he's not even in the top 10,000 in the world, he's lost all his talent.

I'd say in his prime he was better, the Marshal Mathers LP is easily one of the greatest rap albums of all time. Of course he went pop and changed his style, now he just plain sucks.

Well people differentiate between race because it's ironic that a musical genre invented by black people has a white guy as one of its leading talents. And getting offended by something so easily demonstrates a serious lack of brain power, seriously, when someone throws the word offended out there so quickly they demonstrate their lack of IQ.

Black people didn't invent rap.... Humans invented it. Differentiating between race for no EFFING REASON IS RACIST. Eminen is just another person with the same capacity to create rap music. You seem to be ignorant of your inner racism, maybe?

The mere act of getting offended easily, by itself, says nothing about IQ.

And speaking about a lack of brain power, it's really quite dumb to be surprised (which is what the word 'ironic' implies) that a white guy is one of the most talented rappers. Even if rap is mostly a black genre, there's no rapping gene that black people have and it's only natural that out of all the white people that rap, at least one of them becomes one of the elites. After all, rapping talent has no inherent connection to race.

The whole "hur hur it's funny that a white guy is excellent at rapping" line of thinking is just so small minded and asinine.

no I'm sure black people invented rap. It started with Parliament Funkadelic creating funk out of jazz and rock. Then RunDMC and Snoop Dogg in the early 80's began sampling from Parliament Funkadelic and turning funk into rap. Every single person in all of those bands were black, so yeah, you dumbass it was invented by black people. Eminem came from the Beastie Boys, without them he'd never have been a rapper like he is. Not only are you an oversensitive prick that accuses people of absolute nonsense like an alarmist braindead loser you know nothing about the history of music or how it is created. You need to not type and think because you are 1000% in the wrong in this given situation, I'm the farthest from racist possible, you should be embarrassed.

the act of getting offended actually does negatively correlate with IQ, so yeah, you're wrong about that.

Rapping has an inherent connection to race in that they invented it so the irony lies in the fact that someone of opposite race is the poster boy for something his race did not create, it'd be like a black guy being the best Poi performer in the world, that's probably too complex for you to grasp and I'm guessing you'll just not get it. Where did I say hur hur? I said ironic. Oh wait you just want to put words in my mouth, that thing stupid people do. @geekinkinc: Easy B. He just said invented, that's not marginalizng or demeaning white contributions. MC Serch or 3rd bass's or Rick Rubin and Beastie Boys, and Eminem's foundational contributions to rap music, who've been there since the early days and or the golden age of the 90s.

It don't change the fact that eminem friggin' eclipsed Jay-z on his own record in Renegade thats nothing to do with race but just a moment of showing and proving.

But everyone accepts that Marachi is mexican, so its just agreed upon the universal artform of rap was invented by black people. If not certainly championed more by black people than white culture who looked down upon it.

Like how audacious would we be to demand co-ownership of artforms created by white people? Even if we had groundbreaking contributors. We still share the music and each other's successes with the same colorblindness and social awareness anyways.

I didn't call you racist, you whiny twit. [Also, citation need for your first claim].

Attributing a musical genre to race in the most laughably simplistic terms possible is not a complex thought by any means. Yes, rap is culturally black, but that has nothing to do with rapping talent. You seem to not realize that race is a social construct. It doesn't have as much significance as you think it does, which is why I'm not as entertained by the idea that one of the best rappers is white as you are.

For somebody who accuses people of being easily offended, you sure have a lot of sand in your vagina and you sure get veeeerrry defensive. I'm not going to call you racist (you'd probably cry if I did), but you seem to have something of a guilty conscience. Might want to do something about that.

It's not that I think he's marginalizing white contributions. It's that he thinks race matters more than it actually does. It is not some kind of revelation that there are white dudes that can rap up a storm and that one of them has become recognized as one of the best. It's actually quite a mundane reality.

As far as Eminem murdering Jay Z on Renegade is concerned, for some weird reason Jay Z really has a tendency to get eclipsed when he's rapping with other people. That's not to downplay Eminem's excellent verses of course.

Don't really get rap. It seems to be men using beats (i.e. other peoples music) and just talking over it. Much of the time boasting like a nob head about how criminal they are. To me (black or white) that is lowest common denominator stuff. But, I know very little about rap so I'm probably missing out on some amazing talented people, or something.

I think it's mostly being able to tell a story over a beat. And not just any story...a GOOD story. Eminem is VERY good at this.

Imo, most rappers "best" years are always in their first, or second, and sometimes third albums. After that, they run out of good stories and start ramblin about stuff they did after they sold out and none of it matters unless it has a catchy hook.

To add to this, the whole "talking" comment shows a lack of understanding (but to be fair, he did admit that he doesn't know much about rap). To rap well, you have to have a sense of rhythm, you have to have breath control, you have to have a compelling cadence, etc.

Eminem takes a shit on most of these mainstream black rappers today, and then he wipes his ass with them. Eminem in his prime was unbeatable and no wanted to **** with that "white boy". Still as much as I love him I don't know if I could say he's the best of all time.

Besides Slim Shady, I think 50 cent deserves a lot of respect for the empire he's built, same as Dr Dre. Then you've got those old school legends like Big Pun, Ice Cube, Big L, Biggie, Tupac and Eazy E. I'm sure I'm missing a few more but you know what sue me. Regardless of all that though rap is pretty shit these days and I always find myself going back in time to listen to dose classics mang.

I don't get the whole "race bait" comments here. So if someone asked if a certain female football (soccer) player was better than most male players (who are normally known for being more proficient at the sport than women) would it be a sexist thread?

Differentiating between races for no reason is racist. This topic offends me.

Differentiating between race is not racism. Being racist is racism. Look up the definition before you spout shit.

"The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races"

TC didnt demonstrate ANY signs that he believed black or white people to be inferior or superior to one another. All he is guilty of is making a generalization for the sake of an easy conversation/debate. I dont wanna see threads with a disclaimer at the beginning just in case some jumped up asshat decided he doesnt like the wording.

Sort it out.
