I've watched about 12 in the past 2 weeks alone, most sucked apart from '500 Days of Summer' which was really sweet. I watch them because I like movies with happy endings.

How do I stop watching Rom Coms?

It's not as easy as just stopping, I think this is a real problem that needs curing.

Any advice?

Man up, invite some guy friends over and have them discourage you from watching anymore by putting you down for it.

That is not a problem at all. It's just a stupid phase you're going through. You can just stop watching them.

Whatever amuses you. I've never understood why humans look down upon others for being entertained by certain material. In our race we respect, better said UNDERSTAND individuality. It is a non issue amognst us really but I find it amusing how humans are do dramatic about little things.

The problem with the endings to a lot of Rom Coms is that I want to know what happens after! do they stay together? do they get married? do they have children? are the children ugly?

These are important questions!

Some Like It Hot was released in 1958 and is probably the best romantic comedy ever. If you don't watch it for some silly rule you made up that forbids you from watching anything pre 1990, you're mad.

That sort of sounds like the theme of this movie with Topher Grace and Dennis Quaid called IN Good Company

It was mediocre, ok at times, but he basically finds out that his life was all wrong, falls in love with a girl he can't have, realizes it a bit too late, reassembles his life, and moves on to something better.  Definitely a feel good movie in more ways than one.

That sounds similar but 500 days of summer isn't really a feel-good, I felt worse coming out than going in.

Congratulations, you're infatuated with the most formulaic, brain-dead genre in Hollywood (and that's really saying something). The cure is to realize that the vast majority of them follow precisely the same formula and to expose yourself to some better material.

I can watch some of them, but most of them are complete dreck and I just can't tolerate them. Even the ones I watch are usually more about other plot elements or situations than the romantic aspects.

Whatever lights up your gray matter I suppose.

Maybe. It was a bit sappy at times and stretched credibility quite a bit, but I found it pretty funny. It's a bit of an ensemble film and doesn't really just cover one relationship -- it covers several practically unrelated ones in small segmented doses. I particularly liked Bill Nighy's character. There were a few love scenes were rather overtly sexual, so if that sort of thing bothers you, there it is (I doubt it does, but I figured I'd mention it anyway). Still, those scenes were more comical than sexy, and frankly the scenario that spawned them really couldn't have been done any other way.

One that I really love from the 80s is "The Sure Thing". I'd also mention "Pretty in Pink", but that one isn't really a comedy.

Just watched the Proposal with Sandra Bullock, Ryan Renolds. It was pretty good actually, it's about a horrible boss who makes her employee marry her so she can stay in the country. Sandra Bullock being the boss.

And yes I have seen Love Actually, it was one of the better ones.
