This is solid advice.
Find those simple simple things that bring a smile to your face and surround yourself by them/it. It sounds silly but If I have a shit day quite often il come home, pick my cat up and make a fuss of her. It makes me feel better. As long as you have the capacity to make those around you happy then life is worth living. Watch a few documentaries about physics. In a way realising how absolutely insignificant we all are always makes me feel strangely better. Like your problems really are not so big.
I agree. And this reminds me of another problem with depression. When we're under the weight of it everything looks way worse than it is, and we think that unless everything is perfect it's not worth it but everything will never be perfect, and that goes for everyone, not just you, but somehow people without depression manage to be perfectly happy without a perfect life, which means that so can you if you believe you can.
Take always_explicit example with his cat. If he doesn't have a job he likes, or someone to go home to (he does, but let's say he doesn't for the sake of example =p), will the cat get those for him? Probably not, but if to him, his cat is a source of peace and focus, then he should seek that peace as often as he needs to, and then when he feels that his head is on straight and he can think more clearly, then he can go search for his dream job, his ideal woman, or anything else he wants/needs.
All you need is a starting point...for me it was meeting the right girl, to some of my friends it was video games, to others it was seeking counseling...everybody works in a different way, but in my opinion it's very empowering to know that all you have to do is find that one thing that can be your anchor, your starting point, and you can just keep improving from there. It's simple...not easy, but simple. You can do this!
