Kentucky residents are among the least likely to have a bachelor’s degree or high school diploma. Only 83.1% of adults have a high school education, and 7% of adults have not completed the ninth grade — both among the worst rates in the U.S. Residents without a high school education often struggle to earn a living — 32.1% live in poverty — more than twice the 15.5% poverty rate for adults who have finished high school. Despite the state’s many problems, Kentucky residents aged 16 to 19 are more likely to be either in school or to have graduated high school than their peers nationwide, at 95.7% versus 95.1% across the U.S.

Weak. A lot of that stuff Rand Paul has no control over them.

Try again.

the point here is kentucky is a shithole and rand is off dicking around with nonsense instead of doing anything to fix it.

here is his voting record and sponsored bills.

https://www.govtrack.us/congress/members/rand_paul/412492

From Jan 2011 to Apr 2015, Paul missed 41 of 1,306 roll call votes, which is 3.1%. This is worse than the median of 1.5% among the lifetime records of senators currently serving. The chart below reports missed votes over time.

ky is falling apart and he is faffing about not showing up for work at twice the average rate and trying to take animals off the endangered species list and defining what is and is not navigable waters.

anyway i know you don't want to hear this shit about your lazy incompetent candidate but you will be totally on board as soon as i get on clintons ass for being a privileged not connected to reality bought and paid for politician.

Try again.

@horgen: Neoconservatism is pretty vague, but what the point means is that those conservatives that favor a military-centric foreign policy approach don't really like Rand because he's not a reactionary like they are.

I'm pretty sure he won't increase the forces overseas without a very good reason.

In my eyes he's a little more decisive than Obama, but not a hawk like McCain or Romney.

Deciding which to vote for among the current crop is like trying to pick what flavor of shit sandwich you want, Paul included. I really don't think any of them will be able to do anything to make things better for most people if they even cared enough to try.

Could you explain this more?

Is he against:

-Abortion (how long into the development cycle)?

-Active euthanasia (after birth)?

-Passive euthanasia (after birth)?

To simply say "He is against killing babies" could mean quite a few different things.

Anyone who advocates for the Gold Standard would fail a High School economic class and should not be president due solely to ignorance of economic systems as evidenced by such a position.

Also, his anti-vaccine theories.

I would rather see some one like Bernie Sanders run for office over any one else I have seen.. Rand Paul is just another Republican who has toed the line to keep in office in a ever increasing extreme right wing party.. https://www.govtrack.us/congress/members/rand_paul/412492 his voting record is no different than any other Republican, infact according to this data, he is exactly smack dab in the middle of the Republican spectrum.

Linkage for reference

  1. Rand Paul will be more cautious with waging war than Hillary Clinton or Jeb Bush
  2. The Los Angeles Times has referred to Paul as "one of the foremost critics of the government's domestic spying program."
  3. Rand Paul has teamed up with liberal Democratic Sen. Cory Booker toreform the criminal justice system
  4. POLITICO states Hillary Clinton is "Wall Street Republicans' dark secret" in 2016
  5. Sen. Paul thinks Edward Snowden was treated unfairly as a whistleblower and should have only spent "a few years" in prison
  6. Rand Paul publicized the issue of a possible government drone strike, on American soil, against American citizens. No, I'm not making this up
  7. Rand Paul could bring back an era in American politics when conservatives and liberals socialized with one another
  8. Rand Paul will not gut the economic safety nets of this country in the manner espoused by Paul Ryan and others
  9. Neoconservatives hate Rand Paul
  10. Rand Paul could be the answer to our philosophical conundrum as a nation

Introductions and explanations can be found in the link at the top.

I find this very compelling. What do you all think?

(EDIT: I am not the liberal democrat, I'm quoting the article's author and using it in the title to entice you fine folks to jump on into this thread. My opinion is that these reasons are compelling because they are interesting. They go against the grain by choosing to entertain the idea of a Rand Paul presidency. HOW FASCINATING. :D)

Bless you sir. We need more people to lean less Liberal/Conservative and more Libertarian.

He seems to be for medical marihuana and reduced sentences for drug offenses but not straight decriminalization and/or legalization. But I will take a look to any evidence of to contrary.

You do understand 99% of this falls on state/local government...right? These are state issues. Rand Paul is a representative of the people of KY to the federal government. The only thing I would take from this as far as Rand Paul goes is he does not believe these are federal issues and is not weighting down bills with a crapload of pork from his state. If he were Governor of KY I would 100% take this information and be like hell no, he can't be president. but that is not the case now is it?

Nice try though.

I'm not holding my breaths over Rand's candidacy. He sounds like a fringe politician so desperate that he's willing to say anything to win. That's why he can afford to run on a radical platform: if he wins hurrah and if he loses he reverts to being a fringe politician, albeit with the added legitimacy of "the establishment defeated me"-his ability to effect his platform is irrelevant.

If he miraculously wins, this would be the next shattering disillusionment of American polity. In the unlikelihood that he emerges genuine, the impasse his administration will find itself in will be a spectacle to behold.

lulz. **** dems too.

they are all a bunch of petty privileged self serving criminals more interested in power plays, lining their own pockets and not getting caught in whatever they are into than serving the interests of the people.

my ability to ridicule rand for what he is is only matched by the amount of ridicule the rest of them have coming.

none of them deserve a public office any more than an anti vac tea party nutjob does.

(btw here you go if you want to see the dumb bills and shitty attendance record i brought up to make fun of what an idiot this guy is.)

He's a very typical modern Republican, who is masquerading as a Libertarian. He can use his father's legacy for that purpose, but his voting record is much more in line with the right-wing of the GOP. Plus, he's wishy-washy, though most Presidential candidates are at this point.

It's going to be picking the lesser of two evils again, unless Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders get involved. Not only are they true progressives, but they also don't stand down in the face of their own party. They'll push Hillary hard, even if she's the forgone candidate for the Democrats.

No one on the GOP side is worth a bat's fart.

@vfibsux: ok, hows about this.

i'm 100% wrong and super dumb and bad bad boy.

now you guys can vote for a lazy, incompetent sponser of dumb bills who happens to be an anti vaccination idiot with a clear conscious.

lol.

hey i'm bored of rand and how he will obviously never be elected, can we ridicule cruz for a bit?

i have a lot of great material about how he believes if he wins the presidency he can finally become a real boy and how geppeto is proud of him.

(pictured, ted cruz's father.)

So you blame a bunch of state business on a federal senator....then when you get called out on that you throw a hissy fit and divert to another topic.....vaccinations and "dumb bills". Exactly which bills do you have a problem with?

Seeing as though you are picking out Republican candidates only can we assume you are a Dem?

I asked you what specific bills you have a problem with. Surely with this much venom you have something you can point out without looking it up.

I'm not so convinced, especially not by that link. It's traditionally terrible reporting from a traditionally terrible source of information.

Dammit I wish one or both of those people could run for office.. They are the only ones with the balls to go after the obvious rampant corporate corruption going on in politics now.. And it is getting far more blatant than it has ever gotten before..

This recent story with the aid sent to Haiti is fucking disgusting.

Loading Video...

.. I am sure we are going to see similar event happen with Nepal now with relief work in which corporate contractors are hired through aid money by the US.. And neither side has really done anything about shit like this except people like Warren and Sanders.. Money needs to get out of politics and term limits need to be set on these career politicians in house and senate...

@musicalmac: Many anti-Conservatives are quick to brand GOP as racist.

Anyway, Rand Paul is probably the best Republican. He's not really the traditional Republican model, or what we think of a Republican as - he's about as socially liberal as a Republican can get yet far more libertarian than the authoritarian bunch.
