How do you think you'd act in an active shooter situation?

So surprise surprise. There's been another mass shooting in America. This prompted my coworkers and me to talk about past shooters and how we'd act in an active shooter situation. I'd really imagine myself trying to run at the shooter, trying to be a hero, but I know that would never happen. In reality, I'd probably just run as far from him as possible, hopefully at least helping some people get to safety.

What about you? How do you think you'd react? Are you a concealed carry? Do you think you'd be cool-headed in the moment to take the gunman down or would you just run?

I have been told that i am the coldest person on the planet. Thanks gods i am a nice person. However, hurtful acts like you say, these people have it coming to them. Got to think ahead. I certainly wouldnt hide.

Hmm... in that scenario I would make a run for it. I'd sprint like Usain Bolt, you'd never see me again. I could play dead or cover myself in dead bodies, but that really depends on my guts and keeping a calm head.

I have my concealed carry permit but I admit I don't know what I would do until I was forced into the situation. The sad part is is that, say I did get shot, it would mean financial ruin for me even if I lived. Healthcare is for the rich.

Active shooting? Never have I been in this situation, but I have had threats with weapons thrown my way. I had this person tell me “drive-bys happen”.

I'm a big guy, so running is sort of out of the question if I am in eyesight of the shooter. I mean if I was near a window and two stories or less, I'd probably go out it and run.

It really depends on the whole situation. If it was in a school or some sort of campus, and the shooter was in another building/area, I might run. If the shooting was occurring in the same room I was in, well...I don't know. I might try to hide and grab some makeshift weapon or something and pray the shooter did not find me.

I'm stronger than most people, so I'd like to think I could overpower the shooter, the problem with this though is that there is generally a lot of distance between people when they are being shot and, as I said, I am a big and slow target.

I honestly don't know how I would act. I tell you what, I never really thought about it tbh, it's sort of scaring me because frankly this is our reality now. I probably should know what to do.

Convince people we can take him out with numbers. Some of us may die if we try, but all of us will die if we do nothing.

It depends on the situation. But I'd like to think I would listen to the people in charge. Hopefully people trained to deal with that sort of thing. Sure there is that macho dream of disarming a gunman. Even though it is highly unlikely that I would get the chance to live it out, so to speak.

Id survive, I just know it. Unless I was the first one hit, im out or in a good spot to blow over; heck might even kill the shooter myself. Too much of survivalist mindset

That is why I stay inside my house. Being in a house is safer than outside, doing house activities.

The vast majority of people, including those who post here would likely run if put in such a situation.
Including those that write that they would charge at the attacker and take them down, otherwise you have a death wish.

I have no idea hos I would react... I think the loud explosions from the gun would scare the shit out of me though... But what I would do with that fear I don't know... I'm pretty sure I wouldn't just get so scared that I become unable to move. I'm a guy of action!

I would cover my self in mud, or shit, and make a trap. Or maybe face the shooter and disarm him with a circular kick. If he tried to shoot me I would catch the bullet with my teeth.

Well, this person would actively be shooting, so yes, they'd have the guts and you'd probably be shot in yours.

Be unable to do anything. I'll probably be in shock.

Duck and cover or run if I can.

Ok then I would try to spear them.

Most likely I'd end up dead, can't outrun a bullet.

I'd run away and place as many walls between myself and the shooter as I can.

It's fun to fantasize about taking down a shooter...but the reality is that you'd most likely die if you tried to stop them.

I’d run in the opposite direction of the sounds of gunfire as best I could. If I were cornered, I’d do my best to find something I could throw and keep out of sight while attempting to close distance. If I got shot, I’d play dead and hope it wasn’t mortal and he/she wasn’t thorough.

The one thing I would not do is try to hide under a desk or concealment and wait for my death to arrive. I would never willingly be immobile. Three choices to me: increase distance, reduce distance, or play dead. In that order.

Na, wouldn't take the gunman down. Ain't no Navy Seal.

Probably just do whatever one else is doing.

How would I act I am unsure but I wonder how these people stalking and running a slander campaign would react. Lol

@JustPlainLucas: good question. I used to carry all the time regardless of whether it was a location that allowed it. now I don't. I guess we won't really know until it happens to us.

I don't know what I'll do in this big stress. I hope it won't happen with me.

I feel like I would try to reason with the shooter and end up getting killed in the process. I think a lot of it depends on my mental health and mood at the time when such a thing would occur, anyway.

Theres a guy on youtube that is bald and carrys a Counter strike source knife.. in reality in his car. And that is why there is an age on each game DUH!! That's like Gran Theft Auto 18+ where you speed in cars and do dangerous things..(sarcasm)

There was a shooter recently at one of the branches of the company I work for, USA Today. I'm honestly not sure what I would do in that situation, my instinct would be to hide under my desk, but I think that that would likely be a mistake. In fact I just got up from my desk to take a look around and there are two rooms relatively close to me that are mostly unused and dark that I could duck into, staying close to the ground of course. I'd probably stay in there until the coast was clear.

Oddly enough there is an active shooter training quiz that I'm supposed to take later today. I'd feel better about that fact if we hadn't just gotten rid of our building security team.

Aaaand I just finished the active shooter training course. That was.....unsettling.

I used to work as a Post Office Counter Clerk and got a gun shoved in my face. Strangely enough i was pretty dispassionate about it, pushed the silent alarm with a smirk and just stared at him. Maybe i have psychopathic tendencies..?

If someone did it again i would probably sigh and turn their gun around on them see how they liked it, maybe fire a few rounds off at their feet..!!
