I have a feeling I don't see myself the way others see me. I don't know what is my personality or the sound of my voice. I have a question is it like recording your voice? Where you say: "That's not me." and everyone else says: "Yes it is."

Is there any way to explain this? If I record a video of my self, is that my true self?

Do you guys have this problem or do you see yourselves the way others see you?

Well OT?

Post a video, let see what you mean ? j/k,, i do understand you. At times i am unsure if what i see in the mirror, is it what other people see ? Or do they see someone completely different ? You never know ?

Well, in the mirror you see the reverse of what everyone else sees. Since this is the visage most of us have of ourselves, of course we think our own image looks off on video when everything is right-way-around.

You guys are getting it. Like why don't we see ourselves the way others see us. Is it the third person perspective?

When you talk, it sounds different to you than to others because of the sound also being heard by you through the bones of your skull in addition to your ears. When you hear a recording of yourself, you hear it without this.

Everyone does. It has something to do with the bones in our inner ears or something.

Hope so. Others say there's nothing wrong with my voice, I want to believe them lol.

Just listened to a recording of myself that I just made...

I'm not pleased at how I sound.

I'm actually the other way around regarding my voice...when I speak I hear it higher pitched than when I listen to a recording and I actually like the lower, deep voice that apparently everybody else hears. Although I do notice that my accents (when I'm speaking something other than my native language) seems a bit off from what I hear when I speak but people guarantee me that they don't hear it.

I'm often told that my voice sounds like a teenager (I'm 43). Of course as you say I don't hear it that way. As far as what you see in a mirror, obviously you'll see it in a different angle or light. You also know all of your imperfections so the ones you feel scream out at people they don't even notice most of the time.

I used to change the pitch of my voice, often, while speaking. Now, I speak with a more consistent tone. Even if it sounds a bit different when played back, it is consistent, so I am more comfortable with it.

And i always try to change the pitch of my voice but after recording i found it is always same.

I avoid any physical perceptions of myself, which is why I don't have a single photo, video or recording of myself. I'm not sure what that says but here it is.

Sometimes, I don't recognize myself in the mirror and I sink into a state of unawareness.

If I had to give an explanation for this, I'd say that I never accepted a photo or a recording of me as an accurate representation of myself. This incompleteness vexes me, which is why I reject the mediums altogether.

As for the mirror thing, I have no idea what it is.

I've put on a bit of weight, and I can almost touch the demon.

I know how you feel I've gained some weight myself because of eating the wrong kind of food.

My brother looks different in the mirror so I don't know. Certain features will pop up more in reverse, it's kinda odd.

Light and shadows really can make you look different.

This thread is messing with my head, I thought I was self-aware but now I don't know. Listening to my voice on a recording, I seem to have a thicker accent but am more softly spoken than I thought.

Well OT?

You're oversimplifying things quite a bit, friend

"The way others see me", the "others" are individuals, whom all view you differently. How you view yourself also varies, depending on your frame of mind and the given situation you're in. It's not like recording your voice, no. You can't present a version of yourself to others and then expect them to yield a higher truth of who you are based on the presented, because they're just as clueless of who anyone really is, as you seemingly are.

There can be no "true self", for the reason that there cannot be a "fake self". Everything you do, is a true expression of you. Even lies and deliberate manipulation. "True" and "fake" is a question limited to personal preferences and cultural convention.
