I haven't listened to audio books since I was quite young however recently my job requires a lot of drive time, and I picked up an audio version of the book I am currently reading (A Clash of Kings). I must say it makes my drives far more enjoyable. Generally I like sitting down and reading books, but having the book read aloud isn't bad at all and it's certainly better than never having the time to read books

Any of you guys listen to audiobooks from time to time? Do you prefer to read or listen?

It depends on the book but I generally prefer reading. Last book I tried listening to, I stopped after about like 12 hours and started to read the book. But that was mainly due the book being easier to grasp when reading.

I read, but so often laying down without lights is easier just listening to it. Tho its hard to find books sometimes, guess depending on what it is. tracked down Few Steven Erickson audio books but quality was dreadful. Wish someone did whole Malazan series

I prefer to read so I can go at my own pace and not feel rushed or that it's too slow.

@dave123321: Sometimes i edit audio book MP3 by putting some music or sounds like Rain ( love reading when its raining haha) or some natural sounds behind it, makes diference, youtube is full of them.

Remember using huge chunk of this for Temple by Mathew Reily, mixed few other things in there. Used this for few books also

I prefer to read but my wife sometimes listens to audiobooks while driving...she says it's to get "some reading done" so I always tease her about it XD

She has less free time than I do, though, and there's times where she gets home so tired she falls asleep trying to read, so I understand.

One of my job positions I was security director for a major museum and library and one of our libraries had nothing but audio books for the blind and physically handicapped.

@JimB: That's actually really nice, it's good that we are accommodating the less fortunate.

Depends on the book. For fantasy titles I have to read them. For modern thrillers I can listen to them in audiobook format.
