How and why did you start smoking?

If you do...and have you tried to quit?

How: just grabbed a cigarette and began smoking

Why: because I was an idiot, actually my parents and many relatives smoked so it was easy to acquire the bad habit.

I smoked for 31 years and finally quit smoking 2 years ago, column´t be happier, now I have extra cash every week to blow in other stuff ( like games ).

how: gatewaydrugged by cannabis, basically was already smoking joints so why not cigs

why: nicotine high, first 50 cigs were quite fun to smoke, after that it was just something to do

i recommend it to everyone i meet

For weed I thought "I drink alcohol about twice a month (in largish amounts, that is; not counting the odd beer) so I doubt it's going to make a huge, measurable difference if I get high once a month". For shisha I thought "huh, this tastes good". I also want to try a nice cigar at some point, because I'm curious. I don't smoke cigarettes. They disgust me.

Basically I don't smoke regularly at all, and what I do smoke is in very small quantities, so I'm neither worried about its effects on me in the long-term, nor am I going to stop. I'm guessing this thread was mainly focusing on tobacco, so I guess I can't contribute in that sense. soz.

I haven't started smoking because it's idiotic. I have on occasion smoked a cigar in the rare social setting but that's the full extent of my smoking habits and I would never smoke more then that.

I started smoking cigarettes when I was stressing out about work and school. I found that the nicotine really helped me calm down.

Now that I am a few years older though, I still like the occasional cigarette. I guess you could say I "slowed down dramatically" but not really quit.

Because someone told me that it feels really good. So then I tried it and it really did feel really good.

So in other words, you have started smoking.

Started smoking weed when I was 16, I think. I'm 27 now. The reason is that it's fun. I don't smoke cigarettes, and I'm not gonna start.

Never smoked tobacco but I have smoked cannabis plenty of times.

i only smoke when i drink large quantity of alcohol

it helps me drink more, or at least i think so. lol

Just started at school as many do, age 12ish I think. Can't really think of a why, young stupidity I guess! A couple of years later I moved on to smoking weed and stopped smoking cigs, then I gave up weed as it was messing me up a bit (I was smoking A LOT of strong skunk) and carried on with the cigs in their place. Haven't smoked either for a decade or so now though so it's all good. Feel much better for it.

I don't smoke and one thing worse is Ecig. In the UK any way A lot are even smoking Ecig in shops and other public places and is most annoying.

I didn't. I can't see why anyone would....but they do. Whatever. Long as people don't smoke around me they are free to pollute themselves.

How: I was introduced to it by one of my best friends at the time.

Why: Because I had recently lost my mother and I was grieving; I needed an outlet.

I have stopped though, I haven't touched a cigarette in over 8 years. ;)

Started smoking weed at 14, it was a gateway drug to tobacco, which I picked up at the age of 18.

I've since tried to quit the latter, it's hard to do. Best I've done was switching to ecigs, though that's costly to maintain given it's all cheap ass Chinese shit and buying the equipment is costly. Though I definitely felt the improvement when I was on them. It's a shame it's not seen by many as a healthier alternative, and lawmakers are trying to stop growing popularity of them by restricting aspects of sale and use.

Most people don't look that cool smoking.

Grew up around people doing it, basically. After you quite, it becomes quite apparently what a waste of health and money it is.
