It seems that the LGBT community seems to be welcome by the Pope. This has to be the first time something like that has been done at least to my knowledge

Congrats to him for not being a terrible human being, I guess. Don't know why religious figures deserve praise for being late to the LGBTQ party.

Of course. There is religion a la carte, you can choose which rules you follow.

It's a step in the right direction, but until that sentiment turns into some sort of tangible reform throughout the Church as a whole, this is no more than a stopgap measure to placate more liberal elements within the Catholic community. Also to desperately try and make the Church not look quite so archaic to the rest of the world.

Christianity is mainstreaming itself to pander to others? Is that what you're telling us? If so then I'm shocked!

Pope Francis is trying too hard. Why not abolish the creed and get it over with? What's the point of a creed that contradicts itself and constantly goes out of its way to get the approval of the very same people who reject it. That's kind of an oxymoron. Christians must be real proud of their hipster Pope.

It doesn't say in the Bible that gay people are inherently bad or simply being born attracted to the same sex is a sin. It does say that acting upon those desires is a sin though e.g: Two dude fucking each other.

So people who are gay but don't participate in gay activities like that are fine according to the Bible. I don't know why any gay person would be a Christian though. Sounds like a horrible life of struggling to hold back your desires.

I don't even need to have read the bible to know Jesus would disagree with this. Sure he liked hookers as much any red-blooded man would but gays? I don't think so. The Pope is exceeding his mandate.

I disagree with the pope and find his comments to be a PR stunt.

I don't support homosexuality but I won't be rude to them for something they can't control. Its a tricky subject but I wouldn't have a gay friend.

What some religious figureheads state, or what their doctrine tells should be completely irrelevant anyway.

The pope's just trying to act all hip and cool to lure in the younger generation who are increasing non-religious.

Pretty good idea. Obviously this has to actually happen and not be a talking point, but it's baby steps.

The pope is such a sell out... and yes the Catholic church has always considered homosexuals' deviant sinners, that sounds pretty evil to me.

So when is he going to do something to fix all the problems his organisation caused?

While it's nice for him to say that he wants to change, it doesn't change the countless deaths and the unimaginable amount of suffering the Vatican has caused.

Yep as the one above said. I mean that religion is what holds humans back.

Just look at the middle east, before islam came around it was the place for enlightenment, inventions, progress and now its a war-torn place where one religious tribe wars on another. Religion is the cause of so much backward thinking that its amazing people actually believe it.

Yeah, it's kind of silly. You can repent of the supposed sin of fucking a dude like all other sins and be forgiven. Most Christians actually don't know much about their own religion.

Doesn't sound like a backtrack. The synod will meet in one year time to re-evaluate the issues talked about this month. It was never the plan to change Catholic dogma/teachings after this meeting. The last Pope installed many conservative members of the church in high places, and I suspect there is little Francis can do. He will get the ball rolling on changing Catholic views on homosexuality, but I have a feeling we're not going to see major changes for years.

I know quite a few gay people who are Christians...why, I will never understand...

In any case, the less hatred Christians (and everyone else, for that matter) have for those who are different from themselves, the better for everyone.
