I am SO SCREWED and really stressing out about this. I backed into someones car today with my truck and left some damage. Not major but not minor. There was no damage to my truck. After I hit the car I panicked and drove off without leaving a note. Nobody saw it happen so I was thinking maybe I'll be ok. I don't know what to do right now. There is a chance they know it was my truck IF they remember that I was parked in front of them. Also, they might of had cameras on their garage not far away, but I don't think the cameras were positioned to record the accident. So what do I do? Right now I'm praying that if they do ask me then I can just deny it because I have no damage. Or should I leave a note or try and contact them? I'm really afraid of getting in trouble so. I won't be back in that area until midnight tonight and when I get there I'm going to park far away somewhere else. And since it was their front bumper im hoping they will walk right past it when they get into the car the first time, drive somewhere and then see it then. Maybe they will think they got hit while they were out. sorry for **** post UUUUUUGHHHHH

I think you know what you should do and posting about your hit and run isn't it...If you can get in contact with the car owner, do it.

I would go to the police asap unless you know how to get in contact with the owners of the car, then get to them first. That was a hit and run, and that is serious business. Have your insurance pay the damage on their car and don't get yourself into serious trouble by lying and hiding. The truth will out, turn yourself in.

I won't be back in that area until midnight tonight. I might just call my roommate and have him go leave a note with my info. I'm just so ashamed, nervous and scared right now.

Put it this way, how would you like it?

I would appreciate if someone left a note with their details and said they'd pay for the damage but I'd go to every length possible to find who did it if they did not. I make it a point to remember the license plates of anyone parked next to me just in case it does happen. I remember once i saw a car with insane amounts of scuffs and dents from hitting other cars, the mirror must have had at least 5 colors in it from hitting other cars mirrors and I made it a point to photograph the car and the license plate with my own car in the image to avoid any excuses. I never had to use them thankfully but I would go down through anyone who hit my car and drove off, it's the reason a car a few streets down had both his mirrors broken off and every panel deeply scratched when he hit my mirror and drove off knowing full well I saw it happen.

So I went one step further and he couldn't prove a thing. It didn't end well for him at all :D

Scared of what? Why did you run? A minor parking lot accident is nothing to get worked up over. If you know where the car is, go leave your info.

Would you be happy if someone hit your car and just left?  I know it sucks, but you can still make things right.

#9 Posted by Allicrombie (25197 posts) -
You should hightail it to Mexico and begin a new life as Enrique Montoya, Latino porn star for hire.

Ugh, I've had that happen twice to my truck. I've got a giant gash in the bumper and later a dent in my tailgate that mysteriously got there with no word from anyone.

Thank you for unearthing one of my skeletons...

It was a dark and stormy night. No seriously, the wind was going 60 mph and it caught my door as I barely opened it and BAM right into the side of the car I parked next to...

I didn't leave a note because It was not like I did it on purpose but the guilt ate away at me for years and years.

I am a horrible person!

If you know someone you truly hate then put their details down. It will at least cause them some grief.

You should be fine, just as long as you don't do something stupid like admitting to a hit and run on a public forum.

What kind of damage did you do,like a scratch ?
#21 Posted by -sharp-shooter- (2566 posts) -
Since I'm not in that area at the moment I called my roommate to leave a note for me. I put on the note that I didn't want to get insurance involved and that I would just pay for the damage out of pocket.

I don't know the exact model of the car but it had a similar front to this car. I think I bent in at least 2 of the silver grills but I didn't get a good look at it. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q223/Technik_Auto/Chrysler/Chrysler_TC_08.jpg

This reminds me, I was riding down the highway and saw this car speed past me. It bumped into the side of the car in front of me and just kept going like nothing happened.

You won't get in trouble buddy. You won't get caught. But please do the right thing.

Someone hit my 2013 Mustang GT in 2 places last night and didn't leave a note.  Almost $800 in damage.  They left some of their paint and took some of mine.  I'm looking over every blue or white car in my complex.  People work their @sses off to afford their cars.  They don't need other people screwing things up for them.  Accountability is the only way to go.

Update- I found the car that swapped paint with mine.  Took pictures of both cars to show the correlation.  Knocked on the door of the apartment that I suspected the owner was in.  I was correct.  Confronted him about the issue, and he admitted it.  He also sheepishly apologized for not leaving a note or finding the owner of the car that he hit.  Swapped contact info and agreed that he would be responsible through his insurance company.  Calling insurance company tomorrow and taking car to the shop where I got my estimate.

Good move.  That was the right thing to do.

#33 Posted by redstorm72 (4568 posts) -

Well, you already ran away, so the damage is done. To be honest, as long as there were no cameras around, I would just keep quiet. You dented a bumber, it's not the end of the world. It has happened to me twice, both times the person drove away, and it was only mildly upsetting.

You can be a douchebag and just let it go and hope you cannot be tied to it. Or, you can be honest and face the consequences of your actions. You get to choose. Finding the owner shouldn't be hard.
#38 Posted by BuryMe (22017 posts) -

I hope you realise that leaving a note doesn't absolve you of a hit and run charge. If you hit some one, you need to wait there.

#39 Posted by FrostyPhantasm (8521 posts) -
Admit and post about it online and even describe and show pictures of what type of car it is. Only then shall you be free of any prosecution.
#40 Posted by TwistedShade (3165 posts) -

Sounds like you're screwed could really mess yourself up for leaving a note like that. Even if you pay for it out of pocket i'm pretty sure you committed a hit and run, and they could press charge's for it.

#41 Posted by Riadon2 (1609 posts) -

Leaving a note may help, but it could make it worse if the owner is a douche.  I probably would just drive off and park somewhere else, but then again, I have no conscience.

If this is true, you're the type of person who doesn't deserve to have any nice things.  I think I'll piss on your motherboard and smear feces on your monitor.  Who cares, right?

Well, you already drove off. If you just bumped him then don't bother worrying so much about it. Even if someone comes asking if you bumped their car, you can just say that you never noticed it. But of course you would pay up in that case since the owner of that vehicle found you. Next time leave a note or try to find the owner. I had a blonde reverse into me at a parking lot. She cursed me up and down and refused to do anything about the scratch until her boyfriend came over and offered to pay for damages. The damage wasn't serious so I just told him it was fine.
