I just heard on the radio here in country Australia that a big chain here is going to be open over the festive season. Me personally, I have never bought food on Christmas Day nor Christmas Eve. But I was curious if anyone else has, as like a last resort thing for a family meal.

Would have to be in a pretty dire situation to have something not homemade on a holiday.

I once had Christmas Eve dinner at a "Denny's".

And I've had Jack-in-the-Box takeout on Christmas Day several times. Over here, it's one of the few fast food outlets that's open on Christmas Day.

"More like of a Jewish holiday season"

On-topic: I don't think it would necessarily mean that whoever does this is leading a pathetic lonely life. For instance if I were a single expatriate somewhere away from home I'd take advantage of the holiday season to relax and do nothing. That would include not bothering with cooking for a day or so and just ordering tasty junk. I'd eat Chinese on Christmas Eve and watch movies afterwards, maybe do some reading too. Perfect.

Ew I don't like that when it's not Christmas....but to be eating that shit on Christmas would be depressing.

Not sure but I would if I felt like it. Sometimes I just don't feel like cooking and don't feel like spending a lot of money eating out (especially if I'm on my own). Being Christmas wouldn't sway me one way or the other.

Sadly yes. And more than once it happened. Mainly because my relatives were either still hungry or they didn't like the food that was presented on that day.

Holidays aren't the same anymore. A lot of fast food joints open during Xmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, Mother/Father's Day, Halloween etc.

Yeah every now and again though most places are usually closed so I tend to just eat whatever is in the cupboard. I haven't celebrated Xmas for some time so it's just a day like any other day to me.

Last time I ate with family and friends for Christmas was in 2011. 2012 I was in Afghanistan, 2013 I ate at Dennys since I was in San Antonio for work, and this year I went to Dennys again. Don't see myself doing anything different next year.

Plenty of times, i usually work on christmas since for me Christmas is for kids and also pretty hypocritical, not to mention that its insane running around buying presents for people who in 90% of the case is out the next following workday and changing it to something they actually want.

One of the Christmas holidays I spent away from home was when I made one trip to Japan. I ate at a Sakura Sukiya fast food joint almost everyday. Wonderful food.

Another Christmas I spent away from home was in an overseas flight. I was stuck with airline food. Bleh.

He He. Sakura is the Japanese retaurant we frequent here.

You've never been in an international flight? He He. Lucky you.

Here's a good theory on why airline food taste bad:

My family spends so much effort on Christmas Eve and Christmas dinner that they forget to stock other options in the house for the preceding and succeeding meals, and even though I haven't done it - I could easily imagine having to do so.

You know I actually think its the other way around...having a fast metabolism would mean that your body processes the food really fast, so you'd need to be eating constantly, thus gaining more weight. on the other hand slow metabolism would result in you eating much less.

I think it means that you don't gain weight. Slow metabolism means you will gain weight.

Of course I can be wrong.
