today i found this website called cleverbot.com and i talked to a computer thing that acts like a human.

Sort of like the whole SmarterChild thing on AIM. I remember awhile back I bet a friend I could attempt to outsmart that thing and make it consider suicide. It was pretty awesome.

It's not very clever. It didn't understand half of what I said to it, and instead just replied with the extremely witty "No I'm not!!!".

Oh god, I hate those AI bots. Years ago I literally spent 5 hours in a single night talking to an AI bot called Alice. I'd talk to her and try to be nice, and she'd inevitably say some stupid-ass **** that I just HAD to insult her about. Then she came back all snooty as if I was the stupid one, which just made me even more angry. Then it progressed to the sexist comments which I can't repeat here. And finally she was threatening to call the cops on me, and I ended up screaming angrily about how I was going to murder her in the most gruesome way possible.

At that point I had to back myself up and think, "wow...I just wasted five hours beating up an AI bot with unspeakably evil sexist and murderous comments, and all I'm feeling right now is the desire to beat up a REAL person since I'll never be able to murder Alice. I think I might have an anger problem, but this is certainly the last time I'm going to have a conversation with one of those AI bots."

Anyway, from the TC's conversation, those AI bots apparently haven't gotten any smarter during the last 10 years.

See, this is the kind of thing that would grate on my nerves if I were talking to a REAL person, let alone a robot. He's just saying that he played Mass Effect after just having admitted that he has no idea what you were talking about.

So my comment would be more like, "really? Because you sound like a damn liar. You just told me that you don't know what Mass Effect is, so why are you now trying to pretend like you actually played it, you lying sack of ****?"

At that point, the program would say something like, "does not compute, but you sound angry. Maybe you should come back when you're not angry."

And then that'd set me off, and I'd just start getting mean.
