GWAR frontman David Brockie dead at 50

Some real unfortunate news today.

GWAR might not have been the most mainstream band, but they garnered a pretty legendary status based on their insane live shows. I do believe many would argue them to be the best live shown around.

The band was also notorious for their ridiculous costumes and crazy storyline about them being barbaric aliens who would destroy entire planets and they stuck to that story very well. There are in fact some great videos of Orderus Urungus (David Brockies character in the band) showing up on Red Eye and discussing things while completely sticking to character causing some good laughs.

Quite simply they are probably the funniest band out there. They put out the occasional funny video and anytime Orderus is around you can expect to laugh.

That's not to take away from the fact that the band members are all accomplished musicians and they have some fantastic music, that is if you have the sense of humor to not take it seriously or else you can be a bit offended...

This news just really sucks. I had personally hoped to see them live again. I had seen the band in Detroit back in 2010 on Devil's Night and it was the best concert I have ever been to. They played with The Casualties which just made it even better as The Casualties are always a great band to see live.

I used to be a pretty big GWAR fan. Still have most of their albums on CD.

Not a fan of Gwar, but everyone should know who they are. I'm curious what caused the death.

I didn't hear of them until Beavis and Butt-Head introduced them.

I haven't heard anything yet. I think Smoot randomly passed away from heart failure, right? Wonder if it is a similar situation. Middle-age man touring and putting on the sort of live-show that they do. If he had any heart issues I doubt their touring helped...
