Groove Metal = Modern Metal = Post-Thrash
Groove Metal could also describe Death 'n Roll bands like Entombed, Desultory, etc...

as for bands like Pantera;
Exhorder
Insult II Injury
Souls at Zero
Machine Head
40 Grit
Channel Zero
Overkill (90s)
Sacred Reich (90s)
Slayer (late 90s)
Purged
Sepultura (mid 90s)
Decimation
Dejecta

I don't even like half of the bands I listed, atleast the eras of them I was talking about, I was just giving an unbiased factoid on the thread starters question... but to say I don't know anything about metal is a bit silly since he is the uninformed one...

but really, mindless brootal death is stupid

I would have to agree there. I think bands like Opeth blow those other bands out of the water. While bands like Nile are very talented, they still just sound like noise at times. Don't even get me started on Cannibal Corpse.

I wasn't necessarily talking about the pure musical talent of those bands... because I like alot of ameaturish death metal but I was refering to their creative imput as a band... and Devourment, Retch, Soils of Fate, etc the list can go on... are just boring and uncreative death metal bands that some how got popular for no reason at all... there's a few brutal death bands I like though, Gorgasm tickle my fancy...

Cannibal Corpse had talent though and they paved the way for a ton of bands...
