 I can't think of anything more pathetic, then someone taking the time to actually go through entire post on websites, only to point out spelling mistakes.

It's even worse if the people on twitter who immediately disregard everything you say just for a simple "You used the wrong their/there" . Nothing more funnier than someone further demonstrating that their life is so empty that it needs justification to exist only to be a snide dolt.

It's enraging, funny, yet intriguing.

I don't know, when I go to a thread and see repeated and blatant spelling errors I start to question things.

If someone is arguing a point, but they're unable to do so in a clear, well put manner, and their spelling and grammar make them look like they have an IQ below 50, People wont take them seriously. Why should they? If you've been pushed through 13 years of school, and are still illiterate, it's very telling how intelligent they must be.

The majority of the time if there are tons of grammatical errors in someone's post, it's a result of laziness, which is why people call it out. For example, I never reread anything I type, and I very rarely have errors in my posts. Because it's not hard. So those that have multiple errors should get called out. Focus on what you're typing and it won't happen.

A lot of people type from mobile phones or speak English as a second language. To me, if it's comprehensible, it's alright. I'd rather have a gramatically incorrect text that makes sense than one with perfect punctuation and wording that says nothing of relevance.

But here's the problem. Grammar National Socialism only exist on the internet.(I'm trying to keep the topic light...obviously I've hit a few nerves..) I cannot recall, only in a school setting where someone corrected my grammar. It's a bizarre creed of people, much like e-racist and what have you. A certain cowardice.

This. I'm not saying every error every makes the poster stupid. I'm saying there's certain errors, and spelling mistakes, or simply continuous errors throughout, it makes the poster look like a dumb***. As such, people tend to take their posts in a less serious light, and may not even bother responding to them.

Explain to me how someone can correct oral grammar? Of course the only scenarios where people are going to correct your writing is when you have to write something.

I can get the second language deal, but really, how often does that actually happen these days? I am around the internet a lot, and countries outside English speaking regions usually have better English speakers than us. And even so, when someone is called out for grammar, it's rarely for one or two poorly worded sentences. It's because their post is synonymous to babble.

I'm just fascinated by your entitledment here, there's never a reason to type poorly? Never? I would just love to get your thoughts on geography.

Wut?

[QUOTE="Nibroc420"][QUOTE="PrototypeTheKid"][QUOTE="Nibroc420"] This. I'm not saying every error every makes the poster stupid. I'm saying there's certain errors, and spelling mistakes, or simply continuous errors throughout, it makes the poster look like a dumb***. As such, people tend to take their posts in a less serious light, and may not even bother responding to them.

But you just did that. You just contradicted yourself without even realizing it.

Really? Which basic grammatical error did my post contain? Did it seriously hinder your ability to read it?

Explain to me how someone can correct oral grammar? Of course the only scenarios where people are going to correct your writing is when you have to write something.

PrototypeTheKid

That's what I'm saying, it's only being corrected on the internet, not in real life.

... exactly? You don't use writing for communication in real life, so people are obviously not going to correct you there.

Should of , should havedave123321

That's a specially ugly mistake, but many of the 'oral grammatical mistakes' fall under the category of colloquialism. You're just talking, there is no formality required. What baffles me is that people don't realize that on forums, Facebook, twitter, you're essentially 'just talking' with written words.

A lot of people type from mobile phones or speak English as a second language. To me, if it's comprehensible, it's alright. I'd rather have a gramatically incorrect text that makes sense than one with perfect punctuation and wording that says nothing of relevance.

PrototypeTheKid

I still don't see any reason to type poorly on a phone. I do that all the time as well, and still, same thing. Just focus. I can get the second language deal, but really, how often does that actually happen these days? Did I say that? If you are text messaging your friend, or something meaningless, sure. But if you are trying to rhetorically validate a point, it only follows to reason that you should try your best to seem literate. Furthermore, good grammar/spelling is habitual. You don't turn it on or off. If you work on it, you just continually do it. It doesn't matter the mode or medium.

I was just curious if it was my run-on sentence or if not, what exactly it was.

Using the wrong "their" or "your" is pretty terrible, imo.

I use both often when I want to indicate some kind of possession or relation.
