..my first amateur mma match. I'm currently taking mauy thai at my gym and had the chance to set up my first official match. I usually do so well in sparring sessions I thought I was ready. I was gonna**** this guy up

the match started out well enough. touched gloves, was utilizing head movement and proper footwork. I even clipped him in the first exchange, but after that things started to go downhill. Soon I realized something about myself: I really don't like getting hit. I have a glass chin. In the second exchange I threw a wild haymaker, and my opponment mangaged to slip that punch and countered brilliantly with an uppercut flush on the chin. As soon as it landed I could feel my legs getting wobbly. I was rocked. He hit me again and my legs quit on me. That's one of the worst feelings in the world..having your legs give out on you (not being able to stand on your own power). My opponent then pounced and landed at least 4-6 more shots at the side of my head. I was covering up but at that point I was basically blocking his punches with my face. Every punch with those 4 oz gloves felt like my head was about to cave in. I remember all I could think was 'chill bro chill!'. The ref eventually stepped in and my opponent won by TKO in the first.

Two things I learned:

1) I am not an MMA fighter

2) Pro Mix martial artists are warriors and I have a new found respect for them.

I'll just stick to watching the UFC..:x

QUESTION: Anybody train in MMA here? If so drop some stories about your first MMA fight! :!:

Sounds like you learned your lesson the hard way, but most people aren't MMA fighters and learn that fact sooner or later. Sucks your revelation didn't come a bit sooner.

dude these MMA fighters have diets and workouts beyond professional , that is how they survive in the hexagon , MMA is not for everyone indeed you have to be physically extra fit and have super perfect diet along with supplements , I am still interested in learning MMA though , i think it gives you the fighting spirit to help you overcome anxiety in real street fights.

Mauy Thai and boxing. I've only been training for a couple months but I was eager to test out what I learned. Big mistake..

Better to learn that in an MMA cage than on the streets though.

If thats the only reason you want to get into controlled fighting then you might as well quit. Street fighting and fighting in a controlled environment are totally different. Fact.

yes but MMA fighting is so brutal and for me if my a$$ gets kicked by a veteran fighter that will give me enough confidence in real fight. although street fights and MMA dont look much different they are so bloody and brutal.

Why would getting banged out give you confidence? Then your second statement, well I don't know if it's just me but it seems to make no sense.

you never get out of fear until you face it, i always feared fights and i always get extremely anxious and start shaking whenever i smell a fight coming (even if it is only bad mouth fight) that is why i think that when i get owned in an MMA fight that will make me confident and expect what pain i will get in a fight . P.S : i never been into a fight in my life.

it's better to play to your strengths. it's bad though when your opponent's strength is far superior to your best skill.

Wow, most people I know would retain a serious grudge from an experience like that and become petty bully ***** Glad to see you realise that these sports aren't for anyone. Yay pacifism.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I wont pursue a career in mma anytime soon. One of the reasons I took this fight was because I knew my opponent was a brawler and was willing to stand and bang. I wanted to test my boxing/mauy thai and got beat. If I was facing a wrestler I would've gotten tooled even worse because my ground game sucks

MMA is basically punching people when they're down and then rolling around grappling each other.

I'll stick to Muay Thai where they don't **** around.

hey man, ive been doign wushu for about 2 +years (demonstraion martial art) and recently switched to sanda ( basically kickboxing with throws) i have my first fight in 2 months and have been training for the last 5 months in this art, and i understand what u mean by the level of dfiference between an amature and pro fighter is beyond amazing, i hope i do well and i hope you understand, martial arts isnt about being the big strong guy who can take anyone, its a way if life, having the abality to get up everytime u fall no matter how bad it is, is the mark of a true martial artist
