So a few weeks ago was my first day working at Tim Hortons as a dishwasher/busboy. For the first few hours, I was working at one TH location and then they told me go to another Tim Hortons location. I assumed they temporarily put me at another location (after what happened) because there was no boss currently at the location I started at and they wanted to see me work and evaluate me.
So I went into the new Tim Hortons location, waited for the boss to show up and he gave me my uniform to work. After changing, I went up to him in his office and asked him if I can start working. He turns to me and gives me this lost, confused look...like he'd never seen me before...it was later on when he fired me that I found out what the look meant.
So he showed me to the person who was going to train me and I did everything he told me to and understood what he was saying about cleaning, taking the garbage out, etc. We were together for about 20-30 minutes before he left me on my own for a while to dry trays and put the paper ads on them. I was doing that for about a minute or two on my own when the boss who gave that lost, confused look saw passed by me and was like "You know what I think? I think this job isn't for you. You're not fast enough and you took too long to get changed. Go home. I would suggest finding a job at a grocery store or something like that."
I thought he was joking at first and I argued with him and asked for a second chance to show him I'd work faster. But he refused, made up crap excuses like "I don't have time for this..." I couldn't FREAKIN believe it. Are some employers really like this?? Won't even warn you or give you a second chance??? I even took a little bit longer getting changed because a woman in the office tried to find a hanger for me to hang my jacket and I had to put my backpack on the shelf...
The interview for this job was just as confusing/surprising as getting fired. I went into Tim Hortons to give my application and another boss was interviewing someone kid who was wearing regular street clothes. I looked and thought "WTF?" I'm dressed somewhat decent just applying for a job and this street kid is getting interviewed. I got interviewed on the spot as I applied for the job. One thing that was odd about it was he didn't even ask me why I left my last job. But I guess it was okay since it said the reason on my application form. He also asked me how fast I would evaluate myself on a scale from 1 - 10. I actually said 10, just to get the job. Maybe that was the problem? But still, couldn't they still warn me when they saw me working slow? Also, I didn't get much sleep the night before and I was a little tired too give my full best effort. He also gave me the job right at the end of the interview.
So can I apply to another Tim Hortons location? Would every Tim Hortons location have me on file that I've already worked at one and know I got fired on day 1? I learned my lesson and promise I'll work faster (and get more sleep the night before). What do you guys think?
