Letters From Iwo Jima was okay. Much better than Flags For Our Fathers or whatever the other one is. You should try 13 Assassins and Assembly.

  • Taegukgi: The Brotherhood of War

TC, Letters from Iwo Jima is an excellent movie.

Last Samura and Sayuri are inaccurate.

Lost in translation is a bit better but still inaccurate.

Come scnese from Cars2 is much better than the whole of Last Samurai.

Letters from Iwo Jima is one of the best war movies of all time. Eastwood's nihilism at its finest. My favourites: Memories of Murder Oldboy Taegukgi I Saw the Devil Man from Nowhere A Bittersweet Life The Host The Good The Bad The Weird

Jet Li and Jackie Chan movies are always good. Along with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, there's also Hero, The Warlords, House of Flying Daggers, Rurouni Kensin (live action), Seven Samurai (classic), old Godzilla movies, and Miyamoto Musashi :)

I love 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' and think 'The Last Samurai' is a great movie. 'Letters from Iwo Jima' is also a really great war movie =) sad but great!

Other great live-action asian movies I remmeber having seen:

Kung Fu Hustle
Hero
Life of Pi
Lost in Translation (it's not asian but it gives you a great glimpse of Tokyo, it's culture and it's people)

I also leave you here 2 asian animated movies materpieces, in case you haven't seen them:

Oh yeah gotta vouch for A Tale of Two Sisters. If anything that ending makes the whole movie worth it. Really a brilliant story there with a FANTASTIC ending!

And I completely forgot animated movies. TC, if you want animated suggestions then that is a whole other list in itself...

You forget a major thing that makes all those movies stand out from the martial-arts pack: They actually have quite good stories surrounding the fighting.

I would say that beyond the awesome action, the stories in all those movies really made them stand-out to me. Especially love Jet-Li's character in Fearless.
