just a fair warning to anyone who has read the "His Dark Materials" trilogy and was even remotely thinking about going to see the movie....learn from my mistakes and stay as far away as from it as possible...even Sam Elliot couldn't save this mockery of a class ic novel...the movie ended about 4-5 chapters before the actual book ends (i guess trying to setup a huge opening scene in the second movie?).....the coolest parts of the book (the fight between Iorek and Iofur is completely stripped without hardly a setup at all).....the great dialogues of the book are pretty much stripped, and scenes of just zoomed out shots of landscapes and travelling are used to just fill the time. If you enjoyed the Golden Compass just do yourself a favor and dont ruin it by seeing the movie.

So... what you're saying is that it's no different than any other movie that's based on a book which gets butchered in a translation?

www.onlinecinema.org is the best on the 'net.

I loved the trilogy, and when I heard that the movie cut off the last 3 chapters from the book i decided i was going to just rent it.

I had a feeling this might happen, god why didn't they get Peter Jackson to make this film? He atleast would of probably done a good job sticking to the core themes and moments of the books instead of stripping away bits here and there.

In the third book, someone kills God, I don't remember who though. I hardly remember anything about the books, other than the fact that I enjoyed them.

Yeah seriously, this happens all the time, even with popular books like Harry Potter and LoTR (although a little less then others, because the movies are still like, 3 hours long.)

I honestly think the worst 'butchering' was in Beowulf, Instead of [spoilers] killing Grendels mom, he has sex with her! it all went downhill from there too, but this is where I stop with the spoiling. The dialogue was so damn cheesy and all 'I am beowulf, I'm gonna act manly!" [/spoiler]
