Everything is made of a positive and negative (yes/no, good/evil, up/down, light/dark), being truly good or truly evil doesn't exist, saying god is evil is no more correct then saying god is good. Only fools and religious nuts believe that something can truly be pure in nature when in true fact it doesn't exist, one must be governed by a consciousness which itself must account for both good and evil.
If god was truly pure good without a shred of evil he would be quite honestly insane, thats the most honest way I could think of saying it. God in essence must be a balance of good and evil, he couldnt rationally judge something or anything if he couldn't experience both sides, so you are right that he is indeed evil but that is something that he must control like you or any other person, he can choose weather his actions are good or evil but we couldn't judge them without respect to perspective on why he took those actions in the first place, something we perceive as evil could in fact be good given that we might not understand the perspective god took to decide that action.
Perspective really does define that line between good and evil, we can't really judge unless we know that persons perspective for the decision that was made and even then it would be a matter of your individual perspective on weather you perceive that action to be good or evil.
