What's your opinion on gay gamers, be it men or women? Does it bother you at all? Do you feel uncomfortable, or do you not care?

I ask this question out of curiousity as I am a gay gamer myself and I don't always feel welcome because of my sexuality and gender. I get hate because I'm not only gay, but also a woman, and neither of those are welcome to many gaming communities.

My experience with Gamespot so far has been mixed. Some people welcome me, but there is also people who's been really disrespectful. I'm hoping this topic will help me see how Gamepsot as a whole think gay people.

The online gaming community in general is a pretty hostile place for a lot of groups - particularly for gay people, women and pretty much any ethnicity aside from white, where derogatory terms concerning each are regularly thrown around in most online games.

With that said, I don't really understand why you would make a point of letting people that you are a gay gamer. Not that I'm suggesting it's anything to be ashamed of, but knowing the above facts about the community, why would you highlight it? You're just making yourself a target for abuse. Wouldn't it be much easier to just be part of the crowd?

Personally, I don't care. Someone's sexuality isn't any of my business, the same way that mine isn't any of theirs. Doesn't affect my ability to press buttons.

I am a supporter for more female and gay characters in video games and have therefore been using myself as an example of why we need more of them. I believe the best way to stop abuse is to go head on against it, and I'm therefore open about my sexuality. I don't believe hiding in the crowd is the best option to fight it.

lol what? What does your sexuality have to do with gaming? Stop trying to define yourself by your sexuality. How about just gamer? Is there a difference between a gay gamer and a straight gamer? Not really unless of course you have sex with your game systems, in which case get the hell out.

It depends really. If you're just playing competitive online games that lots of people play like CoD then yeah you'll find a lot of assholes. Or arena shooters too but most assholes there are just joking. If you're in a clan or something there's probably a lot more accepting people.

I rage when I don't get what would have been a guaranteed kill in CSS or when my teammates act like little camping cunts.

I don't get this. There are a ton of female characters in video games and unless a game is overly sexualized, we're not going to know whether the character is straight or gay, so why does it matter?

Weird thread.

I do agree about more female and gay characters in gaming though. A lot of the current ones are terrible or merely stereotypes.

Why does there need to be a faction of gay gamers?

Cant we just be gamers as a whole like we've always been? Its not like gay people are discriminated in gaming.

I'm gay. I don't really care what twelve-year-olds think of me. I love how Bioware essentially told them to shut the **** up when some of them complained about gay relationships in the Mass Effect universe.

Post your picture if you're so proud of being a gay woman and to prove this isn't a troll thread. 9 posts and making a thread about defining yourself about your sexuality, very suspicious.

The world is filled with anti gay people but is also full or pro gay people. Truth is, people online insult people for the hell of it whether you're gay or not. Stop thinking too hard about shit.

I couldn't give a darn what someone's sexual orientation is, whether it's online or when out and about.

And for two simple reason, It is none of my business and it does not affect me in any way.

Edit : That said if someone is harrassed by someone else about it, Then I choose to make it my business and side with the victim. Be it harrassment due to sexual orientation, age or gender.

How do people know you're gay, unless you're telling them? It sounds like you want the attention. Most people don't care what your sexuality is, and they certainly don't want to hear about it while playing a game.

A lot of you don't seem to get that you don't need to make it be known that you're gay for people to give you shit for it. Homophobia is rampant in the gaming community.

The sentiment behind calling someone/something gay that it's negative and something to ashamed of and mocked is a problem. And homophobia in gaming isn't just limited to calling someone gay.
