Feminist professor attacks pro life student

The University of California-Santa Barbara professor who allegedly assaulted a pro-life student on campus has been charged with criminal battery.

The College Fix reported on March 12 that department of feminist studies professor Mireille Miller-Young, whose research emphasis is black studies, pornography, and sex work, had been caught on camera assaulting a 16-year-old student, Thrin Short.

Miller-Young led a small mob that approached a group of pro-life demonstrators who were holding signs. The mob chanted “tear down the sign.” Miller-Young then grabbed one of the signs and stormed off with it, eventually engaging in a physical altercation with 16-year-old Short, one of the pro-life demonstrators, when Short tried to retrieve the stolen sign.

The confrontation took place in the university’s designated “free speech area.”

The 3 by 5 foot sign contained graphic images of aborted fetuses as well as statistics and facts about abortion. The scuffle left the 16-year-old Short with visible scars and scratches on her arms.

Even though she injured the teenager, Miller-Young defended her actions and told police she felt morally justified. She told police that images of aborted fetuses “triggered” her to act the way she did, and that she felt she had set a good example for her students by physically confronting the teenage demonstrator.

Nevertheless, authorities warned that her actions constituted vandalism, battery, and robbery.

Now, I don't agree with pro-life people either, but to physically assault them is never justified. I mean, this is a professor for crying out loud. She should set an example by going into a discussion with these people, but instead she chose to bully them.

It should never come to any physical violence, and that goes both ways. We hear far more about pro-life protesters assaulting or attacking doctors and nurses who are a part of abortions, but the kind of violence that goes the other way also happens.

We're a sophistically advanced society, and we should be able to work situations like this out with discussion, not violence.

I'm even more upset that a college professor was involved. Educate, rather than attack. Attacking your opponent not only fuels the fire, but it gives them a lot of media support too.

I will add one thing to this, and that is the fact that I don't trust the article from a bias standpoint. I have no doubt that a right-wing news source, even a college one, would not present the entire story. A quick search of the news reveals that only the right-wing media outlets are reporting on this subject. I wonder if there is more to the story.

Its really the third wave feminists that make the purpose of feminism look bad. Don't over generalize.

Perhaps because men still make up the majority of wealth in the nation, the majority of political power and pretty much hold the highest positions in the military.. The mere fact that women are barred from certain jobs in the military based on their sex alone really should illustrate this. Hell the whole scandal a few years back in which military heads were caught in intimidating and ignoring accusations and reports by women serving that they were sexually assaulted or raped while serving should illustrate why we still need a said movement..

Yeah it should never come to violence, and that goes for everyone.

While I disagree with pro-life way of thinking, that girl had every right to do what she was doing. The professor can also say whatever she feels as well. Reducing herself to a barbarian and assaulting the girl over it was un-called for.

Regardless of where you stand, protesting should be allowed and it should never turn to physical violence. Anyone who can attack a 16 year old student especially if they are much younger than themselves has serious mental problems.
