It's in the first season. The one where the guy owes Joker a favor. I can't remember the name though. I also love any episode with Jeffrey Combs Scarecrow, if that counts as it was the later series.

Scarecrow

Any of the Joker episodes. Mark Hamill completely steals the show.

Mark Hamill's Joker is the best. I just hate the way they made him look later in the series.

I liked when Dick Grayson became Nightwing and he tries to build up his reputation and get out of Batman's shadow. This may or may not be the same episode where Dick warns Tim Drake of the pitfalls of being Bruce's sidekick. There was a flashback of when Dick Grayson as Robin gets into a heated argument with Batman during a mission and quits to go off on his own. I love the conflict between Batman and Robin. Another one of my favorites was called "Legends of the Dark Knight," when these kids tell their stories of Batman and their interpretations of him. They result in flashbacks with different artistic styles of Batman. The campy 60's show intro cartoon style, Frank Miller's Dark Knight which included a female Robin and then the "real" Batman shows up in the end to save them. If you've seen Batman: Gotham Knight, the Animatrix style animated collection, which also stars Kevin Conroy BTW, it had an episode called "Have I Got a Story for You" which was based on the same story, "The Batman Nobody Knows" that the "Legends of the Dark Knight" episode was based on. Again it was about these kids and their differing interpretations of Batman and flashbacks with different artistic styles of him.

I could nerd out all day on this. Here is a full episode list.

From that list, here are my favorites:

Over the Edge

Beware The Gray Ghost

Tyger Tyger

The Lion and the Unicorn

Off Balance

The Demon's Quest

Avatar

Night of the Ninja/Day of the Samurai

Also, I love the Superman and Batman crossover episodes in Superman The Animated Series. The World's Finest is flat out topnotch and is my favorite episode in the DCAU.

The Grey Ghost was so amazing. Adam West voicing a fallen, forgotten actor whose works became an inspiration for Batman? Sheer brilliance. That trumpet solo that'd play was full of win as well.

His look, voice and motivations for being 'evil' are all so well done. I'd say he is the most sympathetic villain in the show, aside from Catwoman, but she doesn't really count as a villain in my book.

Tyger Tyger was very good, I liked quite a few of the episodes though. The ones with the Mad Hatter always crack me up.

Not exactly BtAS (related/connected), but the episode from JL:U that was called "Epilogue", and acted as an cross over to how Batman Beyond started.

It ges over why the world needs a Batman.

I remember the flash back that shows the death of Ace.

Also future old Wayne's dog is called Ace.
