In an effort to further connect the world to the internet Facebook will deploy drones to provide free wifi for parts of the population that do not currently have access to the internet.

I personally believe that the more connected people are with one another the more likely it is that people will be more accepting of each other's differences. I also believe that having quicker access to ideas breeds new innovations at an accelerated rate. So yeah I'm all for Facebook's plans to do this.

What do you guys think? Good? Bad? Would it even work?

I could see it being a good way to spread the Internet. It would be awesome if they could go in stealth mode and fly over North Korea where only the elites can access the Internet.

However, when people see the words Facebook and drones in the same sentence conspiracy theories will just explode.

I'm all for it only if it hovers over my house and remains there.

I'm surprised at how good idea that actually is.

"Instead he refers to them as "planes," seeing as they will be "roughly the size" of airplanes "like a 747," although much, much lighter."

"Facebook hopes to get around regulatory and technical barriers to let one person be in control of up to 100 of its drones."

100 drones. The size of a 747. Controlled by one person.

Seems alright.

Commercial Airliners are largely automated, but I get your drift.
