So The CW is the last US broadcast network to kill off its Saturday morning cartoon block. Granted I haven't watched Saturday morning cartoons in 20 years (I'm usually not up anyway) but man, growing up, Saturday mornings were the shit.

In honor of the demise of such an institution, let's hear what your favorite Saturday morning shows were growing up.

The Looney Toons hour was always my favorite, and that it aired from 11-noon and was the lead-out to regular programming was perfect. It was always during this show that my mother made up our traditional Saturday morning breakfast: biscuits, gravy, sausage or bacon (not both) and scrambled eggs. Those Saturday mornings were awesome.

I also have fond memories of Sonic SatAM, Reboot, Superfriends, Tom&Jerry and of course The Smurfs.

"You can never go home again." :-(

I haven't watched them since the early 90s. When I moved to Atlanta in 91 our local ABC network had the bright idea to cancel the entire Saturday morning lineup so they could show some local news special all morning. They moved some of them to Sunday morning. Fox and CBS still showed them but I got older and liked to sleep in.

No point in it now anyway with Hulu Plus and Netflix.

Of course they do. Just Saturday morning cartoons are dead because stuff like Netflix exists. Why wake up early on a weekend just to watch a television broadcast when you can do it whenever you want on another service.

Or, you know, watch the same programs on these channels all fucking day:

http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/

People on Gamespot are so old they don't even know cartoons exist outside of shitty local stations that broadcasted them in the morning.

I never watched Saturday morning cartoons. My TV was always left on Cartoon Network.

I feel bad for todays kids. No idea the quality shows we got to grow up with as kids. Pretty sure todays selection is pretty objectively awful compared to what us 90's kids grew up with.

THE 90's GUYS!

Jesus christ, I can't wait for people who spent most of their teenage years and early twenties in the 00's to reach that nostalgia phase in their life and spam it all over the fucking Internet like if anyone gives a damn.

Wasn't there a live action show on Fox during the Saturday morning line up about four knights who represented Earth, Wind, and Fire... and water? They had dragons and the blue knight was a black guy and I think the red knight was the leader. Anybody remember this show?

Dunno what was part of The CW block, like I said I haven't got up on Saturday Mornings for 20 years.

The 90's were good, as were the 80's. I'd say the best period for Saturday morning (and weekday afternoon) cartoons was the neighties (late 80s-early 90s). I'll never forget getting home from school just in time for Tiny Toons, Batman, Duck tales, Darkwing Duck and Animaniacs.

And cereal was for breakfast before school on weekdays when you stayed in bed as long as time allowed and didn't have time for anything else.

Standard channels are decent, but Cartoon Network has Toonami. Despite its absence from that station for more than a year, it is ongoing. Its persistence is a testament to its quality.

Yes, I'm always saying this. I remember a few episodes where characters were 'killed off' (i.e. robotizied or sucked into the void), but the overall theme was pretty dark, especially season 2. Too bad about that cliffhanger ending. Damn you Michael Eisner. Damn you to hell!

It's all on Netflix, too. I should really re-watch it sometime.

Kids(and adults) have been skipping breakfast for decades. That's why there still messages in ads/commercials on how important eating breakfast is.

eggs and gravy just sounds out of place for Saturday morning cartoons. Cereal commercials were more likely being during Saturday cartoons. No School

If you'll notice I said this was served between 11am and noon. My mom made a big breakfast on Saturdays so she wouldn't have to cook lunch. No complaints here, really.

It's funny to see people being nostalgic about stuff that for me happened "recently" =P

But yeah, saturday morning cartoons, in Portugal every morning was cartoon morning, from 6:30 to 12. Of course at 6:30 I was already on a bus to school so I couldn't watch any of it. On the bright side on saturdays I would still wake up at 6:00 (I think it as the trauma of having an alarm clock that sounded like a fire alarm, so I'd always wake up 5 minutes before it went off, even on the days that it wasn't on =P) so I watched all of the cartoons.

It was Thundercats, Teen Wolf, Care Bears, Gummi Bears, Denver, Captain Planet, Power Rangers (you know, the first ones =P) and a bunch of other old "crap".

People are doing that more with the internet infrastructure improving. I keep mine for video game consoles and it doubles as a computer monitor. I intend to upgrade in the near future to Smart TV and eventually do away with my cable television subscription. That is my plan because the negative consequences of watching it can be circumvented by simply using the internet as far as I know, though that is not to say internet usage does nothing to our minds. :)

@BranKetra: Yeah, I have no consoles so I had no reason to keep the TV. More available room, can watch things whenever I want without having to pre-record them and I pay one less fee (for the TV usage).

That is reasonable.

@BranKetra: I moved to a new place and never brought cable services with me. I have the best internet connection I can get in my area and that's it.

I don't some times miss the ability to just watch a new show and see if it was okay. Not enough to consider paying an outrageous cable bill again though.

Why not just get a Roku instead of throwing your whole TV out for a new one? Or are you looking to upgrade size and resolution?

I remember actually wanting to wake up early, going as far as to set an alarm so i could watch Pokemon and Yu Gi Oh.

Now with the glory of DVR i dont have to worry about what time a show comes on. just record and watch it whenever i get around to it.

Robotech, MASK, COPS, Dungeons & Dragons, Silverhawks, Bravestarr, Voltron, Denver the Last Dinosaur, Dinosaucers, Ghostbusters, GI Joe, Transformers, He-Man, Inspector Gadget, Muppet Babies, etc.

A 4k television is an upgrade, so yes, it is for increased resolution. However, my current tv is decent with no issues. Selling it is a better option than throwing it out. Black Friday is the best time to get a new television at a discount.
