The junior high, and 2/3 elementary schools in the district I used to go to are all shut down because of the flu. About 700 kids total are home from school. It's pretty crazy. I'm so glad I graduated so I don't have to go to school with all the sick kids. Not many people at my college are out sick yet, so I'm lucky.

How's the situation for you people?

No reports at my college of swine flu yet... but it's entirely possible some people got it an just figured it was normal flu (or even a common cold)...

It's not especially dangerous, but it tends to affect people who are young and quite healthy, which changes our perception of it dramatically.

Well if You keep spraying it into the air with flu mists, and keep getting in touch with people after receiving it, it's no wonder that many people there get ill.
In the city where i live there are 0 cases known.

I don't know if it's H1N1 but there have been quite a few school shutdowns due to poor attendance. More than likely the regular flu though

once again the media warps our perception of evolving viruses. It only kills young children and old people, nothing out of the ordinary here, just a new flu strand. and you probably wont need the vaccine unless you are deathly ill, using it to prevent it just makes your immune system more susceptable to other things and medications start to not be aseffective as they were before.

Also, earlier today, I tried to go and get my seasonal flu vaccination, and there's not a drop of it anywhere in the city. I went to several pharmacies that had been advertising for flu shots, I went to my doctor's office, and no luck. No one is even expecting to get a shipment of it until mid-November. :| I'm guessing the H1N1 vaccine is completely out of the question if the seasonal vaccine is nowhere to be found.

I don't get it. I've never seen a shortage of seasonal flu vaccine before. WTF are they doing with it?

Not quite. It inexplicably kills otherwise healthy young adults, too. And that, I believe, is a big reason why it has caused such a panic. Nobody is surprised when someone in poor health is killed by the flu, but when a person who is perfectly healthy catches it then dies a few days later, it's going to cause a scare. Thing is, we don't know why that happens. Most people describe it as nothing more than any other flu. It's just the potential for a quick and inexplicable death that makes it more frightening than your average flu bug.

Definitely overblown. But by the same token, you don't want to be the unlucky healthy young person who dies on account of it.

Yeah, that's what most of the concern comes from. It's not just another flu. There wouldn't be 30% of students absent from school if it was just the flu. We're supposed to stay home if we have any symptoms at all, but people completely ignore that and spread whatever they have around. I'm guessing not all of the sick kids have H1N1, but I'm sure a good amount do.

The regular flu kills some 30,000+ every year, many of those people were healthy individuals prior to death as well. I still think you're better off without any vaccine and the toxins contained in them. Your statistically more apt to get the piggy flu after you get the shot, so why even chance using it? Just use a good dose of hygiene, supplements and be careful around the ones you know are sick.

Well, over here by Harrisburg, at least in my school(Central Dauphin), I've heard ~10 or so cases. Ironically enough, even withthose few cases, out of a school of about 2100, 313 were absent, according to my one teacher.

technically it's killed more kids so far than the regular flu does all year. it's not as bad to adults but really it's hitting the kids harder.

Wow, that is a lot of swine flu. I know a bunch of people at my college who've recently gotten it. I haven't been paying much attention to the other schools around, though, but I've heard from my high school friends that a lot of people have been out sick. I had swine flu back in August. :P

There's plenty, but it's not in huge clusters. I don't think we've had any school closings due to it (eastern PA that is).

260 kids out of 1500 students from my high school were home sick last Thursday. I was one of those students, but I did not have the Swine Flu. I'm pretty sure that the regular flu is much more harmful this year, than it was last year, which is why more people are staying home sick.

In our case, the students were told to stay home if they have 2 or more symptoms of H1N1, which has the same symptoms as the regular flu and and some of the common cold. I don't believe that 30% of the students in the school district just have colds though. There's got to be more to it than that. My guess is that a good half the kids out have swine flu.
