I was wondering what all the dots you see in the dark are? You know its like a really grainy picture or something? I'm not the only one am I...:P I tried googling it but didn't know what to search.. So does anyone know what is or why I (we?) see that?

I've wondered the same thing. i just always assumed it's king of like how we can stare at a light for a long time and afterwards we see dots. Something probably like that i would guess.

But you see it when you get up when it's dark too, you arent looking in the light for a while then.

I think that because you're in not TOTAL DARKNESS in the COMPLETE ABSENCE OF LIGHT that your eyes struggle to absorb the very few light particles that are bouncing off the items in the room. Thus, that static is light.

Is it maybe like dust you see , or your eyes trying to see colour but it can't ? Seems noone knows :P

I see the first one when i rub my eyes a lot. its like Black and Green clouds spreading and revealing a black spot in the middle. It goes away after a while. The second one, I see it when i stare at the sky for a while.

It's the same idea as a grainy photo when it's dark. Like a camera, your eyes try to absorb as much light as they can to see true colors and such. With low light (or a low ISO setting on a camera), you get grain.
