american culture is so lame. superman wtf?Fried_Shrimp
Yes, and other cultures don't have iconic-yet-ridiculous-looking characters in their pop culture... what culture do you subscribe to?
Superman represents American values: justice, good works, standing up against evil... or he did when he was created...

While the general values are similar, they are interpreted differently... let me rephrase... Superman represented justice, good works and standing up to evil from an American persepective... my point remains unchanged...

Dr Who could defeat Superman any day.Too young. Superman is suppose to be a shining example of a man, strong, heart in the right place but a bit of a div which helps provide a being who is more to admire then to despise.
Having a superman who is young like that is like saying that men are nothing once they reach an age past 25. It's like saying once we got past that fraction of our lives we have to take a backseat and make way for the young uns, I don't like to believe that.

yes mine neither
I don't know about that but I can see that they restored Superman's former dignity by reverting back to his true costume.
Tangmashi
What do you mean by this? When did they ever deviate from the true costume?
I've never been a fan of superman tbh...even when I was a little kid I thought he was a pretty lame super hero with lame superpowers.
[QUOTE="campzor"][QUOTE="frostybanana"] Not sure why people want Tom Welling to be Superman. He's not a good actor. He's fine where he is on TV. Besides which, he doesn't want to be Superman. I think after Smallville, he talked about putting all his energy into Hellcats. So no, I really don't want a guy who's not that great an actor, is not a Superman fan, and doesn't WANT to be Superman cast in that role. As for this guy, I don't know much about him and I've never seen him act before. Does he look the part? I guess... If he can act, I don't really care if he doesn't look exactly like what Superman looks like. frostybananaoh dont get me wrong i dont think he's a good actor either (though i still like watching smallville).. i just think he has the best LOOK for superman imo that i can agree with.
What about the guy who starred as Superman in the most recent film, directed by Bryan Singer?

Brandon Routh? He's ok. He probably looks better than Cavill does.[QUOTE="BluRayHiDef"][QUOTE="frostybanana"] that i can agree with.frostybanana

yes it is campy and cheesy, which is why they brought in Chris Nolan,

I think if you're doing a direct comic book adaption of Superman, it probably is too campy to make a good movie. If you have a good writer who can take Superman conceptually and adapt it to what a movie should be, I think it can be done. Is David S. Goyer the guy that can do that? I'm not sure. He got Batman right, but not much else outside of that. So we'll have to see if he can do it again. Personally, I don't think Superman Returns was bad because of the "campy" factor exactly. I think it was bad because it wasn't written too well, and more importantly, it was directed atrociously.[QUOTE="BluRayHiDef"]

Woo! Chris Nolan is directing this? I'm very intrigued. Usually, he grounds his films in reality (The Dark Knight), or in something that's scientifically impossible today, but isn't too far off from possibility (Inception).

It's being directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen). Johnathan Nolan is helping with the screenplay. I don't know about Chris Nolan's involvement but I imagine it's nothing more than a producer/consulting role. Please Log In to post.
