Depends, am I travelling for business or pleasure? Travelling by ship is very relaxing, by train you can do some sight-seeing and you can't beat plane for getting somewhere quickly, so it depends on what I want to do. If it's just going somewhere far away, then plane.

I have never been on any of them but would love to try all three.

None of the above. I prefer to drive. And if it is a short distance, I prefer to ride my mountain bike or walk. I have never flown in a plane, rode on a train (other than when I would hop on them as a kid), or rode on a ship (and never would ride on a ship). The only thing I really care to do with a plane is skydive.

I walked for 12 hours once when my buddy's car broke down. Had to walk from southern Ohio to Columbus Ohio. I slept for 27 hours straight once I made it home.

Train is awesome if you are with family and friends.

Airplane I'm kind of sick of it having traveled from north of my country to south of my country and vice versa more times I can remember.

I have never traveled by ship though I have traveled by boat from one city to another.

The wife and I love our 12 hours walks when we go on vacation to another country. It's our preferred way of sight-seeing when we're abroad. We choose a route that's about 12 hours long and go at it with some breaks to rest and eat something (and a couple of hours to stop and enjoy the landscape or for stuff you have to go in for, like museums, castles, etc). Once we did a 20 hour scenery route (but an hour rest) but that was a bit too much, especially since it was in August and it was 45C (113F); had to stay in the next day...don't think we'll try it again anytime soon in the summer XD

None of those, really. I've rode subways (trains) and planes, but only small boats and neither are the preferred method of travel for me. I would rather walk, ride a bike, or drive a car.

@jasean79: Subways and trains aren't exactly the same thing, especially if you want to relax and enjoy the ride while looking outside and enjoying the scenery...there's nothing much to enjoy in a tunnel (get your mind out of the gutter =P). Also, I've never spent 6 hours in a subway to go somewhere, and have done so in the train. Completely different experience.

Do you consider using Greyhound for traveling? I live in the U.S and I'm a Nurse Practitioner but I like to use Greyhound when I'm going to different States just for mostly Staff meetings, and of course Vacations. I been on a Plane when I was 17 going to Florida Universal Them Park with my parents for Vacation and never got on another Plane since then. I just prefer using Greyhound as of means for traveling and I can play my 3DS XL peacefully on the bus.

Other than the extreme heat, that sounds like a lot of fun.

@AmazonTreeBoa: It is, but quite tiring, especially since I always take a backpack full of water XD Later on the day the backpack is lighter but the energy is mostly gone as well XD

Yeah I know that feeling. I have a Camelbak hydration backpack that carries 100 ounces of water that I use when I take long bike rides. I love when I can prep for it and put it in the frig overnight to get really cold for the trip.

Airplane. The only places I travel, long distance, are within the continental U.S. and it's typically for ski vacations. Air travel is the only viable option for said destinations.

I guess train even though I never ride it anymore. I used to ride it all the time when I lived in Japan. It was pretty fun and convenient since I didn't have a car.

I never ride the train aside from (occasionally) when I come home from college for a break and my parents can't come get me (I live about 55 minutes-1 hour from home). Regardless, there's always something about a train ride that relaxes me...

IMO, Train > Ship > Plane...being in the sky is cool, but the costs would ruin it for me.

Train.

Haven't gone very far in/on any of them (farthest by plane is Toronto, furthest by boat is down the river) but the rhythm of a train clacking down the tracks is very soothing for me.

Same thing here. It relaxes me as I said above.

Am I alone in the opinion that travelling by plane is really boring? At least I can go on the internet in a train or boat, aside from reading the paper or playing candy crush on your phone there's really **** all to do.
