Poll Do you garden? (22 votes)

Yes 59%
No 41%

This will be my third year growing a garden. I am growing three types of tomatoes. A big white one called Great White, a purple mid size one called Paul Robeson, and a red cherry called Chadwick. I am also growing orange sweet bell peppers, black hungarian peppers, watermelon, musk melon, strawberries, grapes, stevia, cucumber, bush beans, broccoli, and lettuce. I also plan on ordering a goosberry bush, two honeyberry bushes, raspberry bush, goji berry bush. I might also order a blueberry bush, but I am not sure yet.

So are you growing a garden, and if so, what are you growing?

In my early 20s, I did some illicit closet gardening. Unless you consider typical homeowner landscaping, I don't grow plants that provide food.

I guess it depends, if by gardening you mean specifically fruits and vegetables not really, although I did use to help my mother with her garden where she had all sorts of fruit trees and vegetables.

If you mean gardening in general, I had for quite a few years a flower garden, mostly roses, tulips and carnations. That was before I moved to a different country though.

Yes, flowers for the front of the house, and peppers in the back! Haven't really ventured out from that the past few years.

When I've got a house of my own with some yard space, I'll probably grow tomatoes, potatoes, onions and herbs. Maybe some raspberries too, my parents have a big row of them in the backyard and they grow back every year with very little care.

If you have a patio or balcony, you can grow in pots. My strawberries and grape vine are in pots. All the berry bushes I plan on buying will all go into Smart Pots.

What fertilizers do you guys use? I will be using Azomite and worm castings for the first time this year. Even going to buy me a worm compost bin and 1,000 worms to make my own and save money.

I keep grass cut and tidy, dig borders over.

Grew sunflowers one year as these were just easy to do, have laid flower beds before but dog tramples them.

Also I try to get in the garden for as much as the British Summer that I can (maybe 3 out of the 5 days.)

@Carl_W21: My friend is growing Sunflowers this year.

Looks like I planted my rose bush correctly, because it has a lot of branches growing out of it now.

@AmazonTreeBoa: Yea they are great to grow, don't have to be an expert - kinda why I do it some years.

I think last ones I did got to around 8 or 9 foot, the other about 6 foot - I did space plenty of seed out and saw some sprouts coming through but my dog like I mentioned just wrecks them lol so I got 2 large ones, a few got going but then died. Damn Dog.

I suck at any kind of gardening. Except a garden of weeds. And not the good kind . . .

Try the Happy Frog line from Foxfarm, it's loaded with great organics and is already inoculated with good mycorrhizae.

Yeah I am going to either get that or Ocean Forest, which is also from Foxfarm. But I am also looking at Espoma AP2 Organic Potting Mix.

Oh, I see. I like Foxfarm and all, but I prefer worm castings. Plus I like recycling part of my waste and getting free fertilizer (after the startup cost of course) in return. I am going to Walmart today and will be looking to see what they have, but I don't recall ever seeing any soilless mixes there before. If I had the extra money, I would much rather just but the separate things I would want in my soil and make my own. I got too many things to buy this summer, but I hope to make my own come next year. It would be a 5 part soil. Coco fiber, worm castings, perlite, vermiculite, and azomite. I might do it when I go to put all my different berry bushes in their 7 gallon smart pots.

Well I got everything transplanted. I sure hope I get some goji berries this year. Got 3-4 years before I get any gooseberries, but my goji berry bush is 2-3 years old already according to the nursery I got it from.
