My thoughts are that Letterman should shut the fuck up and go away. He comes straight out of a commercial and just starts yapping about fracking? GTFO with that.

From what I understand, while Fracking still keeps use dependent on natural fuels like gas and oil the actual fracking process has not been effectively shown to cause any significant environmental problems. It does use a lot of water and with current drought situations that could be a fairly significant problem but that's probably the worst of them. Plus there is the occasional methane or natural gas leak (which is equally as common in normal mining operations). It seems unlikely that unsafe tap water and a polluted water table are a result of fracking.

"As long as they support the economy and create jobs, not a problem. Take your socialist, environmental propaganda TC, shove it up your ass and stfu"

What percentage of Americans would you say think along those lines or would share the same attitude whether they're vocal about it or not?

Have you not seen Gasland or Gasland II? You should watch them if this concerns you.

Anyhow, I haven't given it much thought in a while, but besides TC bringing it up today, I saw this on the news a few weeks ago (skip to 2:47 if you don't wanna see the lead-up)...

I've been living in western north dakota my whole life, and the fracing companies have pretty much trashed this whole state. Several contractors have been illegally dumping radioactive sand filters in abandon buildings, ditches, leaving them in old trailers, etc. We've had about a dozen oil spill this year, three that ended up in the missouri river. Meth use has exploded. Armed robberies, murders, rape, and abductions are out of control, they only make the news if someone gets killed. traffic deaths are a daily occurrence. And the water has a chemical taste and smell.

Hey idiot, I made not judgement on whether fracking is or isn't an acceptable practice. I was talking about Letterman and his hubris in thinking I want to listen to his political bullshit late at night.

When our news media fails to bring needed attention to an issue then I think concerned celebrities should use whatever platform is at their disposal to make their message. but that doesn't given them free rein to say whatever they want without consequence. Going off key like this can provoke reaction in the community of the viewership. In this case Letterman does have right on his side. It isn't like he's spurting bullshit like "Obama is going to take away your guns and use his UN negro army to stick you in FEMA death camps"; because if he were he'd be off TV pretty quick. And though you did make no judgement as to fracking as an issue, I find it hard to believe that your views on the subject matter aren't the source of your contention.

The topic can be approach from multiple points. It isn't merely about fracking, but a comedian ranting about it. I think it is fair game to talk about how Letterman could have approached this topic in a way that it was both entertaining and enlightening like a Jon Stewart would or Colbert could do by satirizing it.

But if you want the tl:dr because I do whatever the hell I want. And that is that.

In 50 years when the middle of the country is starved for water we're going to look back in complete horror at how much water we permanently polluted while harvesting natural gas and tar sand oil.

But fracking is safe. Maggie's parents said so.

Fracking is pretty much the only thing breathing life into my area here in ohio. It's brought so much business and money in that hasn't been here in like 40 years since the steel industry started taking a dump. I work and make good money from a place related to the industry.

That said I do think they need to be watched and regulated for safest long term practices possible. It can be done safe if done responsible.

So what your saying Vfib is you fully support the mishandling of fracking which is poisoning vast tracks of land in the United States such as in Pennsylvania? Need I remind you that this is in fact violating the idea of private property, by poisoning wells, a cornerstone of conservative ideals? I mean there is no debate here we have had wide scale poisoning within the state due to mishandling, are you suggesting you don't respect the idea of private property?
