Marines with Guns vs. Persians with swords = Yes Marines with blades (swords, javelins, pikes) vs Persians with swords = possibly with a heavy lean towards yes.

Wait so you're saying that 300 marines armed with only swords, javelins etc. could take on a persian army that has been training with these weapons their whole life? No way.

I'm sure that they have rough hand to hand combat as well... The Bayonet doesn't count as a sword?
