Computers Jump to the Head of the Class

The widespread adoption of artificial intelligence could lead to a radical restructuring of economic activity and the job market, outpacing the ability of social and education systems to adjust.

Intelligent machines could be used to replace expensive human resources, potentially undermining the economic value of much vocational education, Ms. Arai said.

“Educational investment will not be attractive to those without unique skills,” she said. Graduates, she noted, need to earn a return on their investment in training: “But instead they will lose jobs, replaced by information simulation. They will stay uneducated.”

“We do not know in which areas human beings outperform machines. That means we cannot prepare for the changes,” she said. “Even during the industrial revolution change was a lot slower.”

Over the next 10 to 20 years, “10 percent to 20 percent pushed out of work by A.I. will be a catastrophe,” she says. “I can’t begin to think what 50 percent would mean — way beyond a catastrophe and such numbers can’t be ruled out if A.I. performs well in the future.”

She is not alone in such an assessment. A recent study published by the Program on the Impacts of Future Technology, at Oxford University’s Oxford Martin School, predicted that nearly half of all jobs in the United States could be replaced by computers over the next two decades.

Source.

College education is more worthless every second.

You should read some of Gene Roddenberry's works before you immediately jump to the conclusion the AI automation is a bad thing.

I, for one, welcome our silicon overlords, and petition them for a role as a pampered pet.

I doubt robots will replace ones with college degrees

if you think about it, the lower jobs, like the one you got, will go out first if this ever happens

I'm sure those without a college degree will go down first. And that is that.

At least they won't have insurmountable debts.

Yeah what if all you had to do is get a degree and prove you can do the work. Then all you had to do is let the computer do the work. Then you dont have to work. That would be awesome.

I don't care much for college, but c'mon man. Make better use of your time.

Cool. Just one question: Who's going to be building and designing these supercomputers?

Yeah, the introduction of machines into factories didn't eliminate the need for laborers.

It will just simply change what jobs are needed. Computers always need human oversight to keep operating properly. People will need to be there to make sure things are going smooth and fix problems that come up.

As a software engineer I can assure you A.I. is a bit of a ways away. Automation however will continue to slowly eat up low skill, repetitive jobs.

one of these days

A: government will have to put a % on how much tech can do for a company,

B: require them hire people based off their profits

C: Don't allow the company it self to buy the robots, allow the citizens buy the robots that way they still got income coming it ~ sorta like chiobots anyone?

~~ hopefully one day the world of technology get so advance that no one needs to work and everyone can live happy. of course that's at least year 2100+ times and people will have to cooperate to get to that level

The idea that we're going to lose all our jobs to super smart computers and be permanently unemployed basically violates almost all of economics, which pretty much makes it unsubstantiated luddite nonsense.

What a sad individual you must be if you have to vent your frustrations about not being able to go to college in the off-topic section of a gaming forum.
