Paris (AFP) - Clashes erupted in Paris on Sunday as thousands of people protested against Israel and in support of residents in the Gaza Strip, where a six-day conflict has left 168 Palestinians dead.

I don't understand idiots around the world. They march against an offensive that was provoked by the Palestinians and yet hate on Israel. So many brain-washed biased people around the world.

Yep. What they should do is march against Hamas' stupid practice of firing rockets into Israel and the kidnapping and murder of those three Israeli-American teenagers. Of course Israel is going to defend themselves against Hamas shooting rockets, what country wouldn't?

If Spain was shooting rockets into France, do you think the French would be content just to shoot down the rockets and not to try to destroy rocket launchers on and kill the guys shooting the rockets?

#7 Posted by whipassmt (14410 posts) -

I saw a former Israeli ambassador on tv a few days ago talking about Israel's response to the rocket attacks. He made a pretty good point, he said who are these other countries to "preach" to Israel? He said that China "cleared out Tiananmen Square", Russia went after Chechnya, and Britain send lots of troops to the Faulklands even though they were so far away from Britain? So who are countries like these to criticize how Israel defends itself against attacks originating right near Israel? He said that Israel lives "in a very rough neighborhood".

You can't systematically oppress, and terrorize a neighboring country and not expect retaliation.

Israel is as guilty of Terrorism and Hamas

Man being semi-brown and Muslim is a death sentence with you people. 99% of the death toll that resulted so far from Israeli airstrikes is comprised of civilians. I'd understand if Israel was actually targeting Hamas militants and structures but its not. It basically goes like this: a couple of Hamas militants would fire a couple of pathetic rockets and then burrow underground into their network of tunnels that they built throughout the strip. Israel has to respond in order to show its people that its doing something and it proceeds to pound civilians. Israel HAS to retaliate but its not able of finding actual Hamas targets so it bombards houses. If you condone this then you are a filth of a human being. I doubt any of you who's talking about Israel's right to defend itself has any actual idea about what's going on. Israel is trying to twist arm Hamas into a cease fire by a staggering death toll among civilians and the complete destruction of the failing infrastructure of the place. Only thing is Hamas doesn't give two fucks about all of that, seeing how they're basically a part of the fascist brotherhood. Quite the contrary its under the impression that an increased death toll serves it simply because it will make Israel look bad. In the past few days, we've had F16s, fully fledged jet fighters, destroying houses with their inhabitants still in them. The day before yesterday was quite bloody as Israeli jet fighters repeatedly targeted civilian crowds across the strip. You have no idea about the abundance of gut wrenching stories of human suffering that these air offenses have generated thus far.

Israeli right wingers have gained tremendous influence and political weight over the course of the past 10 years or so within the social and political scene of Israel. They're too fucking trigger happy. This rising death toll and destruction could have been easily averted and it wouldn't have had to be at the expense of whatever goals Israel has set out for this offensive. But who gives a shit right. I'd post photos but there's no need to spread the misery.

if anything, its good to know that not everyone over there shares your deviant point of view.

From what i've heard the Polish did not actually cavalry-charge against German tanks, that was a myth (there are some photos of Polish cavalry using lances against tanks, but those pictures are from training exercises not actual battle).

After further research I found this:

he same day, German war correspondents were brought to the battlefield, together with two journalists from Italy. They were shown the corpses of Polish cavalrymen and their horses, as well as German tanks that had arrived at the place after the battle. One of the Italian correspondents, Indro Montanelli, sent home an article, in which he described the bravery and heroism of Polish soldiers, who charged German tanks with sabres and lances. Although such a charge did not happen and there were no tanks used during the combat, the myth was used by German propaganda during the war. German propaganda magazine Die Wehrmacht reported on 13 September that the Poles had gravely underestimated German weapons, as Polish propaganda had suggested that German armored vehicles were only covered with sheet metal, leading to a grotesque attack. After the end of World War II it was still used by Soviet propaganda as an example of stupidity of pre-war Polish commanders, who allegedly did not prepare their country for the war and instead wasted the blood of their soldiers. As late as 1990s, this myth was still taught in history classes in the American high schools and colleges.

George Parada states:

Contrary to German propaganda, Polish cavalry brigades never charged tanks with their sabres or lances as they were equipped with anti-tank weapons such as 37 mm Bofors wz.36 (exported to UK as Ordnance Q.F. 37 mm Mk I) antitank guns, that could penetrate 26 mm of armour at 600 m at 30 degrees. The cavalry brigades were in the process of being reorganized into motorized brigades.

Yea but they're not involved in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. And thank God they're not really all that popular anymore. The fascist brotherhood, one of the biggest such political movements, got its ass handed to it in Egypt, Syria, Tunisia and Libya.

I don't know what point you think you're trying to make, but all I'm seeing are personal attacks. Pathetic ones, at that. You trying to dress them up to make them more deep only succeeds in making them more laughable.

I agree with almost everything you wrote here, with exception of this line (and the redundant empty superlatives you seem to add to everything lately). I think Israel is trying to twist Hamas's arms for internal reasons, and to make sure it keeps quiet for a long enough while. however I think israel isn't trying to hit civilians- I think it lacks the intelligence (not the cerebral kind) or abilities to destroy Hamas relevant military infrastructure or kill its in-hiding leadership, from the air, so it makes do with trying to create destruction, but tries doing so with as few civilian casualties as possible. I think they have -like- a mental image of the entire Gaza population seated on a heap of debris, in the aftermath. since this is patently impossible, it kills a lot of people.

since killing civilians would severely twist Israel's arm diplomatically, and may invite international pressure to halt the entire operation while hamas is still firing- I think its unrealistic that Israel's goal here is civilian killing. I also don't believe Israeli intelligence and military personnel don't realise Hamas wouldn't be significantly moved by a mounting palestinian death toll. The only party with a (short term) benefit from palestinian deaths is hamas- in that it may halt the operation and make it the 'winner'. I think this goes well with the Israeli warning tactics and the hamas media messages supporting human shielding of homes.

You are too bias, too one-sided. Seriously, now you're trying to justify the existence of a terrorist group. There was no oppression in the beginning, the allies placed the Jews in Israel and the Arabs went ape shit. They could have gone their own way and moved on from it but they continued to form militias and terrorize the Jewish community so the Jewish community armed itself and formed the Israeli Defense force. What happened from there on has been between them. Your bias discredits you and makes everyone go against you. Perhaps if you spoke with less emotional bias and more logic, we would listen more clearly. Yes Israel as has done some bad stuff, but who has always been the provoker? The inhabitants of Palestine and it's surrounding Arabic nations. Palestine could have formed treaties for peace, trade, and could have bonded a stronger economic alliance with Israel if it had not held such resentment for the initial settlement. They choose the hard way which was violence and war and have lost.

What an unfortunate situation. The only way I really see to remedy it in the long term is for the Palestinian people to get rid of Hamas and similar groups.

You're so quick to lay the burden on us. Hamas would never have existed and it certainly would never have found anyone willing to buy into its BS if it was not for the methodical and prolonged oppression, injustice and immiseration Israel has inflicted on the Palestinian people.

immiseration? Interesting word choice, this is the first time I've heard the term and my spellchecker is red-underlining it. I had to google it: it means "economic impoverishment", a little different than what I figured it would mean (making someone miserable).

In the immediate situation, this was caused by the kidnapping and murder of the three Israeli-American teenagers and Hamas firing rockets (there was also unfortunately an Arab teen who was murdered in retaliation for the three Israelis, though the murderers in that act are being tried by Israel). As for the further past and Israel's actions decades ago and whether or not Hamas would have existed, to quote Moira Queen: "And why does it matter now? What's done is done".

We all should equally oppose the people who cannot settle their land dispute without resorting to violence.

I seriously have no sympathy left for the Middle East. The populace continue to breed conflict and support terror groups like that is any sort of answer to a shitty situation. You get people there killing each other for being a freaking different sect of the SAME RELIGION!

If the people are so different from the animals doing all the killing then I ask where are the fucking movements to end this? I see none and yet I keep seeing terror groups get support.

I really hope the US doesn't get involved. Don't put our people at risk. We are not the animals here. These people can just continue to murder each other for all I care. I really have no faith left in the damn region.

You can't systematically oppress, and terrorize a neighboring country and not expect retaliation.

Israel is as guilty of Terrorism and Hamas

And you can't launch rockets at people and not expect retaliation.

Do the oppressed not have the right to defend themselves against their oppressors?

I would think a Captain 'Murca like yourself would support a country trying to free itself from tyranny.

Hamas Rockets vs The IDF is like Poland riding cavalry against the German Blitzkrieg

Let us forget what Israel did to the Palestinians over the course of the past 70 years and focus on them rockets and Israel's right to defend itself.

Where's all your benevolence and human rights rhetoric now airshocker? Do you even freedom bruh?

This line of thinking and this attitude towards us are not really surprising. It goes to show the true hypocrisy and moral depravity of some of you people and it certainly reminds me of the deviant attitude and poor perception of most liberating movements of modern history by their colonizers and oppressors. Make sure you don't go to Russia air or they will get your hard-earned cash!

The democratic man is indeed a joke. He's so stupid, intellectually bankrupt and morally depraved yet he thinks he's so smart, intellectually superior and morally righteous.

"colonizers". The Arabs have sure done their fair share of conquering and colonizing places, like Egypt, Iraq, Spain, Sicily, Syria.
