Paula Deen's career has basically ended over something she said 30 years ago.
Alec Baldwin has made racist and homophobic remarks within the past couple years, and it will get reported but not much comes of it.
Why?

So after you posted that I did the same thing....and got hits. apparently he did go on racist rants....I know about Baldwin's well-documented homophobic remarks, but I Googled "Alec Baldwin racist remarks" and it seems that there's no actual proof that he said anything racist.

I didn't say I didn't get any hits. I said that there's no proof he said anything racist, not that there's no articles about alleged incidents.
For instance, one of the results says that he was cleared by the audio tape.
Because the world is weird when it comes to what it chooses to care about? Seriously can we get over the whole Paula Deen thing yet?
villification = extent of offense / ( entertainment value + athletic ability )^2
paula deen, while offense was small, has no athletic ability or entertainment value, hence the high degree of villification.
alec baldwin, on the other hand, while possessing no athletic ability does have a modicum of entertainment value, and since the lower term of the equation is squared, greatly reduces the overall villification when divided into the extent of offense.
science, b!tches.
That is hard science that I don't think anyone would/could argue with.villification = extent of offense / ( entertainment value + athletic ability )^2

from my perspective. baldwin might have let some unrendered thoughts loose that can be in some manner recognized as things he didnt mean. on the other hand paula deen held events, well planned, expensive events on which the motivating condition was racism. i saw clips of her show where she made super awkward remarks to peoples faces. she always got on my nerves anyway. never trust any lady who insists baby doll make up. she also seems like she is faking herself. she puts that bad accent on like a rapper pretending. she just comes off as full of bad stuff. god be with her, i hope she stays in the hypothetical hole she dug herself, and enriches her life in a manner away from being famous.
baldwin-> i was angry and let things go i didnt mean. or you can buy that anyway
dean-> i generally have rotten, awful reasons to think im better than others. "i is what i is" ??? what? like everyone else is wrong for being upset that she is awful, just because that is the way she was implemented? people have plenty choice enough to decide to not be awful.
all that and baldwin might actually listen to his pr people some. cant say much about either any way. i did my best to avoid the subjects if i could.
Well yeah... but WHY was she targeted and not Baldwin? Why does the media do anything? It's a completely illogical system. When one news outlet take up a story the rest of them do in order to compete. If something shows a following then they continue coverage on it until they've squeezed every last dollar out of the story and then move on. All it takes is one editor at a major company to run a piece and it takes off.[QUOTE="ferrari2001"]Because the media targeted Paula and not Baldwin. BMD004

It's simple:
Baldwin is as liberal as they get, so he can say or do anything (including abusing his wife) and the press will kiss his ass.
Deen has a thick Southern accent, which seems to be a signal to the press that she's definitely a racist... after all, how many NASCAR drivers are black? She could adopt a Suanese baby, marry Morgan Freeman, and still be a racist.
there is, it's just from the New York Post, and everyone else that brings it up as originating as a NY Post claimI know about Baldwin's well-documented homophobic remarks, but I Googled "Alec Baldwin racist remarks" and it seems that there's no actual proof that he said anything racist.

Because she is a white Southern woman. Us Southerners have always been fair game because of our past mistakes. It's ridiculous.

As a Southern white male, those mistakes are hardly past. The South makes a laughingstock of itself on a regular basis.[QUOTE="Amvis"][QUOTE="BMD004"]

Racism is by no means dead, but our racist past of Jim Crow, etc. is largely behind us. But that's still used as an excuse to beat us over the head with. Let's face it, the rest of nation is still just as racist as the South. We integrated our schools back in the 1950's and 1960's. In Boston, there were protests by people during the 1980's because they were being forced to integrate. Talk about hypocrisy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PI4VGCy10FYits her fault she made a huge deal out of it and cried on tv, every person on earth has said something that can be considered racist at one point in their life. she should have kept quiet afterwards.

Indeed. Celebrities always make the mistake of lowering themselves to the tabloid media's level. When some kind of controversial shit hits the fan, they should not apologize, and not defend themselves at all. Just act like it's not even an issue, and refuse to speak to the press leeches, who are basically lower than scum, themselves. Before long, the hyenas realize they're not going to get much mileage out of the story when the subject refuses to stand on the firing range, and they move on to the next flavor of the month.
